Hi All

I am hoping this is a simple request. We are using SharePoint in our office and have several sites. SharePoint has an issue with over 5000 files within one site. Unfortunately we had a mishap the other day when a user dragged one folder into another and we suddenly had 8000 files in one site which then locked SharePoint and caused several problems.

Is it therefore possible to lock root folders to prevent a user from repeating this again please?

Once inside the folder we need users to be able to add, edit and delete files and folders.

Many thanks for the help.

Yes, this can be done. Although there’s no “Move” permission available for configuring, if you deny a folder from being deleted you also prevent it from being moved. This can easily be set up in such a way that the folder’s contents remains fully accessible.

See my post here for directions on how this can be done.

As you intend to perform this on a root folder, treat the drive as the parent directory. Also, if you’re performing this on a drive, which likely has many subfolders and files, it’ll be in your best interest to limit the “Delete subfolders and files” rule to “this folder only” on the drive.
