I use Comodo Firewall 3. I have it on safe mode and it pops out a few alerts now and then and it learns most of the stuff(it would help if you are a hardcore pc person, which I am not) but still I think it is a pretty good firewall. Not sure though if me leaving it on safe mode and not tinkering with the pre-set configurations and leave it to Comodo itself to 'learn' application behavior has any effect or security consequences however.

I'm in the "firewall other than Windows Firewall, not needed". That and the fact that my router has a built in hardware firewall that protects me just fine.

I've tried tests with a software firewall enabled and nothing enabled and my PC has proven to be in stealth mode with Windows Firewall and my router and no need for another software firewall.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

I was surprised to read a couple posts including yours just now talking positively of windows firewall to the point that it can be used with no need for 3rd party security apps. I kinda like Comodo and it would be interesting if knowledgeable pc users who have or have used it, to see what they think of it.

I'm one of those people who run zero third-party security software. No anti-virus/malware of any kind, no extra firewall. I've been running like that since Vista in 2007. For me I've never gotten a virus, outside of the ones I foolishly installed myself being fully aware of what they were. If I am suspicious of a file I'll send it up to VirusTotal.com which test in multiple engines and is always upto date.

For me, I use the built in firewall plus the fact I am behind a hardware firewall, I leave Windows Defender on defaults, and I keep UAC up to the max. That is all the security I utilize, what is built into Windows.

My configuration is not for everyone. I can get away with this because I know what I am doing. And I have the common sense to work with this setup.
