security tab missing...

hello sir,
i was about to go out of station for 1 day, so i unlicked all the options in security tab of my folders so that no one else can access them....
i thought that after coming back, i'll re-click all the options,and will again start using those drives....

but now, there is no security tab in properties of those drives.....



please help me......

Hello Ayushx, and welcome to Seven Forums.

This may be able to help you restore the Security tab if it was disabled. It's for Vista, but is the same in Windows 7.

Are you the administrator on your computer? And are there any other profiles on your computer? Also, what are your UAC settings? Are they on or off?

Looks like you have removed all rights for all users (even read access).
Can you do a system restore to some time before you unchecked all.

Ok,
I would suggest that you shut UAC off (personal opinion, but you dont necessarily have to) Heres how:
1. Open the Control Panel (All Items View).

2. Click on the User Accounts icon.

3. Click on the Change User Account Control settings link. (See screenshot below)

4. If prompted by UAC, click on Yes to approve.

5. Adjust the slider to the level of protection of how much you want to be notified from UAC.

6. Click on OK when done.

In your GPEDIT screenshot in the middle above, set that to Not Configured instead of Disabled to see if that may help.

UPDATE:
If not, then you might also search in the registry using Find and Find Next for NoSecurityTab, and delete any any found for it.

I have been unable to duplicate your situation. Can you state exactly what you changed on the security tab to cause the problem?

@saltgrass : i removed all tick from security tab, from my administrator's account.....
and after that the complete security tab disappeared........

Since this was recent, you might be able to do undo this by doing a system restore using a restore point dated before you unticked everything in the Security tab.

If you want to recover the files from those drives, boot using a Linux Live CD (preferably Ubuntu), and then you can access the drives in Linux (It doesn't care about Windows permissions).
Backup the data and do a clean reinstall of 7.

And next time, Don't mess with the permissions

Did you try doing a system restore at boot using your Windows 7 installation disc instead of trying to do a system restore while logged in Windows 7?

repairing from boot did't get me any new results,

I would say that you may need a repair install to fix this. You will not lose anything.

ok so did you remove all checks on the "C:" or on subfolders under the root of c:?
