Seeming freeze / keyboard, mouse won't bring monitor from sleep mode?

Hi all,

I apologize in advance for the novel. I'm not sure when this issue started, but I'm wondering if it's connected to another issue I'm having. The latest issue has done this two or three times now...

Basically, I leave my computer on 24/7, but it doesn't go to sleep or hibernate, it RUNS in Windows 24/7 as I often have programs I need to let run overnight, etc. Some mornings, I will come back to my computer, hit a key on the keyboard or mouse, or move the mouse and the monitor won't come out of sleep mode. The computer SEEMS to be running as I see the HDD indicator light flickering. The only way to solve it in these cases is to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, which seems to bring everything back. I get the screen that lists "lock screen, switch user" etc., and then I can just hit cancel and go from there. THAT has happened maybe 10-12 times now over the last few months.

The LATEST issue (the one that's happened two or three times), is the same as above, except that when I come back, no keypresses or mouse movements of any sort will bring the computer 'back' and I have to hard reset with the button on the case.

Anybody had a similar issue or know how to solve it? I've read that it's an issue with the more recent ATi drivers, except that in the few months I've gone through like 2 official versions and 5 beta versions of those. I just got the latest official drivers two days ago (13.12) and the 'needing-to-Ctrl-Alt-Del-to-bring-the-monitor-out-of-sleep' thing is back on occasion (it was gone the last two driver versions).

The new 'nothing-brings-it-back' symptom was happening even when the other issue WASN'T in the last two driver versions, so I have no idea what's going on....maybe a BIOS setting of mine or something....?

I'm at a loss as I've checked and changed every possibly related setting I could think of any help or suggestions would be appreciated! It's not overheating...all my temps look fine except my first hard drive temp, which is in the orange/red according to Speccy (50-55C degrees regularly while my other drive runs 26-30C) the drive seems fine, and I contacted Western Digital about it, they said it iss probably a glitch with its thermal probe)

I would appreciate any ideas or insight...any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!!

One place you say it does not sleep and another it does sleep. Have you got sleep activated in "Power Options"?

Sorry, I should clarify...my apologies...my MACHINE is set to never go to "sleep," my MONITOR going to 'sleep' is what I am referring to!

Set your Power Options like this and see if it helps. Don't let your Monitor sleep.

The issue could be an MS update in October that dealt with USB security. MS released a update this month that was supposed to fix it. MS13-101: Description of the security update for Windows kernel-mode drivers: December 10, 2013

We have this same problem where we can only unlock using CTRL+ALT+DEL. This update didn't fix the issue for us, but it did seem to help other people with the problem.
