Ive been using a Mac at work for over a year now and my favorite feature is pressing F11 to quickly show the desktop and select things via expose. I think it would make perfect sense if you could do this in Win7 with aeropeek and pressing spacebar+windows key. Otherwise its a completely useless feature. I know you can press win+D to switch to the desktop but its not really the same thing as expose. Does any one know a solution, reg hack, or tweak to do this?
it would be totally badass if you did. thanks.

Switcher is basically a clone of Expose, built for Vista and Windows 7. Enjoy!

Expose for Windows Vista/7 [Clone] : Divide By Zero - a blog by Kamran Ayub

Cheers,

Thanks for sharing the link, this is great, although it doesn't accomplish what i am wanting. Using windows 7, hold down the winkey+space bar. Notice how the windows become outlined and transparent (pretty useless)? Now try to select something on your desktop--you cant. Wouldn't it be handy if you could??

Doesn't clicking on Aero Peek do the same? Click on Aero Peek area, then you can use Spacebar and Ctrl/Shift to select whatever icon on the desktop.

Hi again tvett,

I see what you mean now. Unfortunately that's the way Aero Peek functions - unlike Show Desktop, it's not minimizing all windows at once but rather turning all windows invisible momentarily. It would be handy though, I agree :)

tuxplorer, the area I think you're referring to (the lower right corner) engaged Aero Peek when hovered, and Shows Desktop when clicked. Tvett's Win+Space shortcut is just a way to do it from the keyboard instead of hovering.

Cheers,

Why not just settle for Win+D? Does the same thing.

That's just to peek. If you want it to function as the old Show Desktop, you have to left click it.

Well then he could hit Win+D then hit space to select desktop items.

SMALLWINDOWS => Hide all windows = show the desktop

Hi,

I too have been searching for this ... can't even understand why this function of aero peek is included in windows since its like clicking 2 times on the show desktop button.

But, I have found

#1- SWITCHER (FREE) as some other mentionned, it's pretty good to switch between windows since it acts just like exposé, but doesn't add any "hide application windows"

#2- TOPDESK, does everything you want, but works a bit clumsy, since it refreshes every windows and if you a window that topdesk "minimized" in the bottom of the screen it will bring it down to the "minimize" spot in the bottom of the screen (just over the taskbar)

#3 SMALLWINDOWS - (FREE): does everything, expose, show destkop -> "hide all windows" (and not minimize like the windows functions

** also, switcher and smallwindows offer a search function when you tile all windows to choose which one you want

SWITCHER = best for exposé features (tiling windows)
SMALLWINDOWS = offer the function you've been looking for showing the desktop.

See ya.
