Selected Messages could not be moved

In Windows Live Mail, when I receive junk mail, it is not placed in the junk mail folder, though it appears as unread mail. If I select the message and then click the Junk button, I receive the message "The selected message(s) could not be moved. An error has occurred." I tried removing and re-installing WLM and junk mail worked correctly for a while, but now the same problem is occurring again.

What is causing the problem and how can I fix it?

Corrupted Junk Mail Folder

I may have solved the problem myself (further testing will tell). I believe I was getting the "can't move" error message because my Junk Mail folder was corrupted. The fix is to find the Junk Mail folder and simply delete it. WLM will then create a new and hopefully uncorrupted Junk Mail folder the next time it runs.

To find the Junk Mail folder, I navegated to:

C:\Users\{Your Name}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\{Email Account}

I was having the problem with my Comcast account so I double-clicked a folder called Comcast (st f29 and deleted the Junk Mail folder within that folder. I have no idea what the extra characters in the name signify.

By the way, when you reinstall WLM, your data files located here are not touched. Therefore, reinstallation will definitely not solve a folder corruption problem. The good news is that you will not lose your old mail messages when you reinstall WLM.

Hope the above helps someone else. Internet searches have shown that I'm not the first person to receive the "can't move" error message.
