Send To items missing using right click on files in Windows Explorer

I know this has been a topic covered in the Tutorials but neither of the solutions suggested there helped at all. In my Send To folder I already have the Mail Recipient and Compressed (Zip) Folder files and overwriting them with fresh ones did no good. Also, I have checked the registry and there are "pointers" to the correct folders. I don't know what to do now. I am reluctant to do a system restore as I don't know when the items went missing from the Send To menu. I would re-install Thunderbird to see if that solves the problem but it seems a strange coincidence that the Send To Compressed (Zip) Folder option is also missing. Any help would be appreciated.:cry:

So, you're missing some shortcuts from the Send To menu...
Please confirm for me that you have pasted the new shortcuts into "C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo" (or go to Run and type in "shell:sendto")

I think that might be linked to Desktop.ini file inside the SendTo folder.

You can try restoring the default shortcuts simply by pasting the contents of this archive (see the attached file) into your SendTo folder (make a backup first) and let me know if that solves it.

As far as I know, the context menu should update itself without having to log off or reboot the computer.

Thanks for the prompt replies. My current "C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo" folder contains the following files :

Compressed (zipped) Folder.ZFSendToTarget 3 10/06/2009 15:45 -a--
Desktop.ini 558 14/07/2009 05:54 -ahs
Desktop (create shortcut).DeskLink 7 10/06/2009 21:44 -a--
Mail Recipient.MAPIMail 4 10/06/2009 21:44 -a--

With these files the Send To options are :
Desktop (create shortcut)
3 storage drives

Using the new files in the zip file above the Send To options are now :

Desktop (create shortcut)
Fax Recipient
3 storage drives

i.e. the Mail Recipient, Compressed (zipped) Folder, and Documents options are missing.
I notice the desktop.ini file is not present in the new Send To folder I created - should it be ?

I do believe it is in there, especially if you've copied it from the .zip file - it's just invisible because it's a system file.
Could you try renaming the shortcuts that do not show up and see if they will show up?

I should be able to see the desktop.ini file as I can see my original hidden one (and all hidden/system files on my PC using Total Commander file manager). The contents of my desktop.ini in my original SendTo folder are :

[LocalizedFileNames]
Mail [email protected],-4
Desktop (create shortcut)[email protected],-21
Compressed (zipped) [email protected],-10148
[email protected],-34575
Fax Recipient.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\FXSRESM.dll,-120

I can only assume the desktop.ini is not in the zip file.

After renaming the shortcuts (and not rebooting) only the Desktop (create shortcut) and Fax Recipient come as with their new names i.e. only the same shortcuts.

I have tried to disable the antivirus (360 Total Security) but that didn't work either. I am beginning to wonder if it's a registry problem (but not the ones I've checked i.e. the SendTo file paths are OK).

Thanks for your time on this.

Hm, strange, I thought I did include it in the .zip. Anyway, your desktop.ini is same as mine (just checked) therefore I dobut that's the cause.

I was thinking that the files/shortcuts might show up with a different name, turns out that didn't help. Thanks for trying.

This is quite a mystery to be honest, I am glad I can try to help, but I feel like I've run out of suggestions - you've already tried the two obvious things - registry and re-creating the shortcuts.

I will continue to investigate this and get back to you tomorrow if I come up with anything.

I have also re-installed Thunderbird e-mail client but that hasn't fixed the problem (I didn't think it would as other send to options are also missing). Oh well, I'll keep trying.

Thanks for this. I did download a vbs script last night (maybe the same one ?) but neither has worked. It is very frustrating. Can't help thinking it is something within the registry though but I am not that familiar with it apart from following instructions on modifying it.

I'm sorry to hear that it didn't help. I'm out of options for now, but maybe somebody else will be able to suggest a possible fix :)

Who knows, it might be the registry, or something not so obvious.
