Hey guys,

Recently, i bought an ASUS PCE-N13 802.11b/g/n Wireless PCI-E Adapter and am experiencing a major problem.

It is connected through the PCI-E x1 bus on my ASUS P4X58D Premium mobo. I have installed the driver from the CD, but my problem is the adapter not enabling. What happens is, i click enable, the window pops up and says enabling...enabled, but on the network connections screen, it still stays disabled. i have tried various solutions such as un-installing the driver and re-installing one from the official asus website (both drivers ended up being the same). My router is a Netgear DGN2000, but surely, that can't have anything to do with this. Device manager says the device is working properly, but when i run the diagnostic scan from the network connections window, i get the following report

Windows Network Diagnostics Publisher details

Issues found
There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection 2 adapter
Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter.

Reason why i chose this one was because both my pci buses were blocked by my GTS250's and trust me, i cant move them to the third pci-e slot because in my case, the psu is on the BOTTOM and my gpu is too fat.

the utilities that also came with the CD were the ASUS WLAN Control Centre and WPS Wizard. When i launch the WPS Wizard, it says that there is no ASUS wireless adapter connected. The back led on the card is lit, suggesting that it is connected and working fine, i have also double-checked that it is not loose or anything.

This is really frustrating, and i would just like a simple solution so i can move out of this confined room where i am directly connected to the router and back into my room with more space and privacy.

any and all solutions will be greatly appreciated, and a giant e-hug to the person who posts a working solution :D

edit; i have read that the problem is caused by anti-virus programs. all i have found is that Kaspersky IS is the main culprit, but i have AVG. So i dont know.

You have to realise that we are all over the world and volunteers with real lives that do get in the way. It may be 4pm where you are but it is 4 am in this neck of the woods.

Barely more than 14 hours. Some one will get to you and you can (if you havent already) put in your system specs to speed up the process.

Check device manager to see if there is a working driver

Please go to start>search>type device manager.
Are there any "unknown devices" with yellow triangles on them?
Is you driver there , listed, and working?

If your driver is missing, or there is a yellow triangle on it, you will need to update it.

You can also check event viewer to see if there are any critical issues there

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

Let us know if you need help with any of this.

I can find no evidence that asus ever made a vista driver for this card, let alone a win 7 driver. The actual manufacturer of the chip is ralink.
You may have some luck with them.
Ralink corp. | Home

in order to use that method you will need to pull the card and find the exact chip model number the device uses. Then uninstall all the asus driver stuff you've put on. I had a card that acted similarly in vista and this was the solution, though it wasn't a perfect one. I had to basically force the driver then allows windows to control the wireless connection.

I have a ASUS motherboard so I can feel your pain, thankfully it uses an nvidia chipset because ASUS doesn't release new drivers for new operating systems for their products.

System specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Intel i7 950 CPU
6gb ddr3 ram
1.5tb WD sata hdd
2 nvidia GTS250 sli

really dont know how system specs will help.

i've checked event viewer, no critical errors that are related to the wlan adapter itself.

device manager detects the card and names it, no exclamation marks on it aswell, so it's working fine.

the quote from my first post is the only bad thing i can find about the driver from a scan, that's about it.

they have the driver for it there. clearly labeled for windows 7. :)

on the card, i cant find any numbers and letters that state the chip model

my mistake. I only looked at the top line. Have you tried that driver instead of the one on the CD? just incase it is updated

of course. well, when i manually update the driver from the link and cd, it actually installs the vista driver, but windows automatically installs the windows7 one. either way, it's the same result

I wouldn't count on it, normally the auto driver update works fine, we are in a situation here where you are having a problem though. I would go the extra mile and grab it off their site.

What security are you using?
kapersky, norton, and a few others are known to block wireless adapters.
That's about the only other thing I can think of here, since you say the card itself is on and active with no apparently device conflicts. Software remains the only problem.

The first suspect for me would be third party firewall/antivirus.

Have you tried just manually assigning a ip to the device?
...and just to make sure you don't have it plugged into the lan while you are doing this right?
