I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my computer. Yesterday I booted up the tower and decided to get rid of all the apple software due to me no longer having an iphone.

The Software wouldn't uninstall, so i downloaded a fix it program that said would uninstall it which it did. I then went to do an windows update but it wouldn't open, on checking other programs i found a few of them either don't open or have errors on.

Windows live mail will open but i get an error message telling me that the program cant open see the pics for screen shot. IE wont open either.

I then ran avast antivirus alongside spybot, I tried to run malwarebytes but it also wont run.

avast didn't detect any virus but spybot detected and got rid of sweeim pupsc and icrossrider.

Finally I tried a system restore but again the programm wont open. Unfortunately I no longer have the windows disc as it got lost in the move along with my other sotware.

How can I find out and fix whats happened?

Hello zafod37,

Try this program from Microsoft to determine whether you're in the clear and scan your computer without having to log onto Windows:-

What is Windows Defender Offline?

Thanks for the reply

I ran the program and the results were clean, so does this mean its a windows problem rather than a security one?

It could be so, try running sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt to be sure:

1. Click Start Orb
2. In search box, type cmd
3. Right-click on cmd.exe, and choose 'Run as Administrator'
4. In the command prompt, type sfc /scannow
5. Perform step 4 three times, waiting until the previous scan is finished of course.

If you need a replacement ISO and instructions for a reinstallation of windows look here:-

Hmmm.. in that case you'll have to do it by using a Windows 7 installation disk or repair disk.

Make a repair disc using this tutorial:-

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

OR

Create a legitimate Windows 7 install disc by following steps 1 and 2 from this tutorial:-

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html

Reboot your computer with either disc inserted and then follow this tutorial to run sfc /scannow from the Repair/Installation Disc

Use System File Checker to Repair Your Unbootable Windows PC

Remember, you always have the semi nuclear (repair install) option if nothing else works:-
(Repair install will NOT nuke your documents, music, or videos!)

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

Thanks for your feedback.

Don't forget to backup important documents! The clean install erases everything, and you'll have to reinstall your programs. But it's worth it! I mean, you won't have any errors afterwards (hopefully)!

Thanks for your help with this, I will have to leave it until Tuesday as I am just leaving for a work training course. I will let you know weather it works or not.

On a hunch I checked an old external drive and low and behold there was a back up I made using acronis just after I finished building the PC. Whilst it is a solution I will use it as a last resort as I have a lot of files and docs I don't want to loose if I can help it.

Anyway I'll be off now (probably late) but will let you know how i get on when i get back on Tuesday.

You will not lose any files or documents using the repair install option I linked to in my previous post.

That is why its called the semi-nuclear option, the nuclear option would be to perform a clean install.
