4. I have attached my CBS folder with CBSPersist files omitted.

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 downloads/installs successfully up until restart, when configuration fails after about 3%. Other updates seem to install successfully. In case it is relevant, my computer has BSOD'd several times over the past couple months (usually on startup/shutdown) as well as gotten stuck on startup/shutdown screens. BSOD errors varied, but the ones that I recorded were: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, nvlddmkm.sys. I can attach some dmp files if they are relevant, but they are not always generated.

I've uploaded a file - pdsaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\pdsaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\pdsaa
or
DIR E:\pdsaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

XCOPY <drive>:\pdsaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

Great - SFC is happy now.

Reboot again, and try the SP1 install from Windows Update - if it fails again, post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file.

A note: I just finished doing a clean-install of Win7 [no SP] on a Notebook followed by installing SP1 from a disc. After all that there still was over 200 updates to get accomplished.

No further updates are appearing in Windows Update.
EDIT: Scratch that last part, Windows Update itself had to update.
