Solved Service Pack 1 fails to install (error_file_not_found_0x80070002)

Good luck with it!
The other option is to download an SP1 ISO for Win7, and run the repair install from that - which will do the update at the same time, hopefully.

I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS

So after taking all night, a ton of updates including SP1 and multiple restarts it worked. The only problems i had were a dialog box saying .net framework 4 had to be repaired and a few initially failed updates concerning .net framework 3.5.1 but they both resolved themselves. Now the turn windows features on and off works and the installed updates screen is populated with updates whereas it was empty previously.

I'll mark this thread as solved i think unless there's anything else i should probably be looking at? I tried sfc /verifyonly and that works now but doesn't report any problems.
