There HAS been a service pack released, but it is not a final build yet. It is only for testing purposes.

SP 1 will be no more than a rollup of updates and a few other minor fixes. You won't even know it's there because its not going to have any new feature's

It is not my place to say, but I feel the need to anyways.

You should try and upgrade to a retail version of Windows 7 to avoid any bugs/issues that may occur in the future.

I'm starting to be amazed, not in a good way, at the amount of made-up information people are posting, specifically to mislead others. Windows 8 is just a concept right now, with very few facts, or potential facts, being released to the public. Given that, why would anyone suggest a beta would be in existence, especially when Windows 7 has only been available to the general public for 11 months, and to the IT world for 13 months?

Unless they come up with an OS that can be operated in mid-air with just your hands, Win7 leaves nothing to be desired that I can come up with.

Downloaded SP1 RC1,for the first two days there was nothing in the right corner, now it says "Windows 7 Evaluation copy 7601". If I run WINVER it shows Build 7601:Service Pack 1, ver.721" any ideas?

This is normal. Windows 7 SP1 RC (Release Candidate) is not the final version yet, so it is considered an evaluation version being tested by you. This is why you get the "Windows 7 Evaluation copy 7601" message in the bottom right corner of your desktop after the 2nd restart of the computer of installing it.

7601 is short for the 7601.17105.100929-1730-3 build number, while .721 is just the version number.
