Service Pack 1 update -error 800B100 failure to install

After a cursory search, I see this has been addressed before. The Service Pack 1 update has been throwing me errors for way too long on a seldom used laptop. A friend "promised" that Noel the Magician would be able to suggest a solution. I've run SFC and SURT, (even SFCfix), Ccleaner and Malwarebytes which all report system clean except this issue.

I do have satellite internet with a data cap so am only able to do large files during the bewitching hours when bandwidth is free.

Please post the CheckSUR.log file - CheckSUR/SURT doesn't display errors, unless it actually crashes.

There are no significant errors in the CBS log and nothing in the SFC scan.
The CBSPersist are almost entirely clear as well - the only problems are those occurring during the SP install.
The main one - which is what's causing the error message - is:

This sounds to me like a failed download.

I suggest attempting to install using the standalone installer - from here...
Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center
You need the windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe file

Darlin', you resolve this PIA and I'll owe you a 6 pack of good ol' boy Texas LoneStar.

I've already run the Standalone several times, then proceeded to re-try the download. So far, none of them have been successful.

I've zipped the past 12 months CheckSur's but can't upload them to Dropbox 'til after midnight.... sooo carry on with more pressing matters til I do my part.

Here's hoping you're instincts are correct and it's a minor prob. I may have to go sit at Starbucks to have a pipe fast enuff to complete the mega mg update.

I think you got the wrong end f the stick - you appear to have posted the entire CheckSUR download. I only need the files C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log and CheckSUR.Persist.log - if the former is any more than about 2KB you have a real problem, but it depends how many times you've run the tool as to how big the Persist file is.

Have you tried a repair install using SP1 media? see the instructions here... http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R

No, have not tried that route and really don't want to chance the results. This is a work machine which contains some old proprietary software that I won't be unable to reinstall should the process go sideways.

Is that my only option?

The repair install process in Windows 7 is a lot better than earlier versions - and rarely blows up - but as ever, good backups are essential.
