Recently there have been a series of Servicing Stack updates. Two questions on them:

1. Why so many Servicing Stack Updates only now that W7 support ends next month?

2. Only after I apply the Monthly Cummulative updates does Microsoft immediately thereafter push the Servicing Stack Update. This is strange since the Servicing Stack Info instructs to apply it before the Monthly Updates. Why do you get the Servicing Stack Update pushed only after you installed the current monthly Cumulative Update? Seems out of order with the instructions they give.

Hi poolmon,

Each cumulative update includes the changes and fixes from all previous updates. Servicing stack updates must ship separately from the cumulative updates because they modify the component that installs Windows updates. The servicing stack is released separately because the servicing stack itself requires an update

when you install Win7 updates from windows update, especially the big monthly rollup updates, the servicing stack update gets installed "silently" or quietly thru WU
