Hello,

I have Windows 7 Ultimate and am trying to setup a backup of some files using the inbuilt 'Set UP Backup' utility but in the list of backup destination devices I can only see the DVD drive even thought I have a USB stick plugged in. I have tried the USB stick in all 3 available ports but no luck.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Regards

Alex

The USB stick probably isn't recognised because it's not large enough to hold the backup. I think also the backup drive needs to be NTFS, FAT, or UDF file systems (a flash stick will most likely be FAT32) Hope this helps :)

You could always make the stick NTFS and try that??

Open a command prompt;
type and press enter after each command -
diskpart
list disk (carefully take note of the USB drive you want to use)
select disk # (# = the number you noted in the above step)
clean
   Warning
This will wipe the drive so make sure the drive number is correct

create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format fs=ntfs quick
assign
exit
exit

Also, the drive cannot be encrypted.
