Solved Several questions about upgrading (custom install) to 7 from XP

How long does it take to upgrade Windows XP to 7? (I'm gonna use a bootable USB if that's a factor)

And if the Windows installation is done, do I need to download the drivers to connect to the internet (wlan), use the webcam, etc? Or are the drivers still there?


I'm thinking of custom installing an x64 Windows 7 in this Sony VAIO FE780G laptop I use (because it's still on XP) and I feel a bit anxious for upgrading... I just need to clear some things up cuz im not really that good in computers when it comes to installing an OS

Welcome to the forum. You can't upgrade from xp to 7 you need to boot from the usb delete all partitions and then install. It's wise before you do that to make sure drivers are available for seven if they aren't you won't have a working PC. Make a disk image of xp before you start so if it fails you can put it back. It will take an hour to install 7 depending on specs but then there will be hundreds of updates

Yeah, I know that you can't directly upgrade from XP to 7 so I'm gonna do a custom install, as what the Windows 7 upgrade advisor told me. Is it any different from what you told me; to 'delete all the partitions and install'?
