Severe Graphics Issue

Hi all, i trust everyone had a fantastic christmas......

yesterday i experienced severe issue with the graphics on my pc. i had earlier been online doing some practice racing on a secure server, after a while the game began to flicker and freeze, it got so bad that even CTRL-ALT-DEL wouldnt get me out of it.

so i contacted a friend who suggested i use 'Game Booster', it determines certain factors on your pc and turns off services that arent required during game play, so i downloaded and installed it, but didn't really see much improvement. then i realised i hadnt installed the drivers for my steering wheel, so i downloaded latest versions and installed. then proceeded to download and install latest drivers for video card, turns out i was running the latest ones anyway

i have since uninstalled the 'Game Booster' software and the steering wheel driver and profile software, but am still having issues

went back to server but i was locked out, very strange as i had the password. so began to practice offline, the same things started happeneing, freezing and jerky graphics.

current situation is it appears the resolution is locked at 800x600, nothing can be altered, the video card is being detected with what appears to be the correct drivers..........so now the pc wont boot into windows 7 normal, only in safe mode

if i uninstall the video card from within Device Manager, then reboot i can get into windows normally but as i said resolution is locked at 800x600 and screens are NOT recognised.......

below is a series of pics i took with digi camera during boot ups and start ups. i've tried to keep them in sequence but after uploading them they went into reverse order, so the top picture is actually the last one and vice versa

Thats a good system, and a decent card, you shouldbn't need any game booster or anything of that sort.

There could be two issues here:

1. A bad driver as ZigZag points out : ensure you get the correct driver (32 bit) for your card, and only from the nVidia site.

2. Your card may be overheating : Download Speccy Speccy - System Information - Free Download - what temperature is your card?

Golden

i had that driver already installed when everything turned to shit yesterday, but just before i was able to install the drivers off the original disc i got out of the box, but no improvement.

i installed Speccy - free version, but as i can only see things in 'safe mode' nothing is available to analyse.

i'm beginning to think it may be an operating system fault, because i can't even see to navigate in the bios, everything is totally unreadable with patterns and artifacts all over the screen.

Mmm....you have graphical artefacts in the BIOS?

Please try this:

1. Shut down the PC entirely.
2. Removed the graphics card
3. Re-seat (re-install) the graphics card
4. Boot the PC

Is it any better then?

Regards,
Golden

Mmm....the only thing I can think of is perhaps there are artefacts of a bad driver still left in the system.

Try this:

1. Use DriverSweeper Guru3D - Driver Sweeper to clean out your old nVidia drivers.
2. Reboot the PC
3. Re-install the latest driver from Nvidia

Does that fix things?

Regards,
Golden

Ok. We are getting somewhere.

The tempratures on your card are a little bit high : my nVidia GTS250 runs at 43 degrees Celcius. How does your cooling arrangement look inside your case? It helps considerably to dust it out and give it a good clean.
