OK. Correct me if I am wrong, but each time you install nVidia drivers, you get the problems? If you don't install any drivers (apart from the Windows driver) its OK?

well, i had the drivers installed when the problem developed, i have the problem all the time as the pc is locked into 800x600 resolution, and graphic artifacts displayed on every screen while going through dos (bootup etc)

hmmmm, i wonder if thats a clue i've just typed there.....
1. the nvidia logo at button press has white dots all over it
2. the bios title and info page is unreadable with a grey pattern all over it.
3. the actual bios setup page is only recognisable by colour, no text can be read

i can boot windows normally only at 800x600 if i uninstall the video card while in safe mode.

apart from that it wont boot normal with driver installed or not, just goes into 'startup repair' option, which it fails

Good sleuthing there Angus.

It looks like you might have to try some Forceware drivers to get around this?

I'm going to ask some graphics guru's to have a look at this too, seeing as its so unusual. Right now, I suggest finding a foreceware driver and giving that a go.

Regards,
Golden

Hi guys.
A video card that shows errors at the BIOS screens has issues that are not related to the OS or drivers.
It could be a bad power supply, motherboard defect, Overclocking/Bios errors, bad or failing RAM, or just a bad video card.

Can you borrow another known good video card to test in your machine? (Be sure to completely and cleanly uninstall the old card). It's a simple and conclusive test.

The video cards of the 260GTX era had a lot of issues. That's why I am jumping right to the video card.

Hi all, well i picked up the GTX460, got it home and put it in, booted the pc and voila!, away she went, so there's something wrong with my 1 year old GTX260 card.

however i still have a problem with the second monitor i'm, an ACER G225HQ LCD, was working perfectly before the card crash.

the GTX260 has a DVI & VGA inputs
the GTX460 has 2 DVI inputs

the acer came with both VGA & DVI cables, i tried the DVI cable and no luck, i used a VGA adaptor andtried the VGA cable and no luck, i have downloaded and installed the latest eDisplay Management software which has the latest drivers in it for ACER monitors, that hasn't worked.

i've been into the nVidia control panel and enabled dual monitors, the monitor works perfectly but shows the complete desktop on it, if i set the "show desktop only on 1" it boots up on the samsung, if i select "show desktop only on 2", then it will boot up on the ACER.

got me beat

so it looks like i have sorted this out........somehow, :D

thanks for everyone's help, right from the start.

cheers

Nice one Angus. Perhaps the drivers were required last in order for everything to kind of "talk" to one another?

Its all good anyway - happy days mate :)
