SFC - Broken Manifests, what now?

Alright, so I ran the SFC tool because things are bit wonky, and I got:

And both of these entries are repeated twice each. At first the computer wasn't booting (BSOD) so I popped in the Windows DVD and it repaired what it could and now it's booting, but SFC still shows these errors and it can't fix/replace the files its self. Now, if I could find a "microsoft-windows-capi2-certs" file on the Windows 7 DVD then I don't think I would be here right now, but as there aren't any files named that, I'm confused as to what to do next!

I ran into this a few months back when I used Driver Sweeper to clean out my ATI drivers before a driver upgrade. In my case, after going 'round and 'round with it for several days, a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html turned out to be the solution.

Even if you don't have the exact same problem for the same reason, my experience with trying to restore a hosed manifest file was that the Repair Install turned out to be the simplest solution. The alternatives I tried all involved trying to copy the Manifests from another computer with the exact same version of Win 7, taking ownership, running SFC, and muttering bad words under my breath.

The Driver Sweeper restore didn't fix it :/ SFC still says the same manifests are damaged so I guess I'll have to just do a regular Repair Install! Was hoping I didn't have to but oh well I guess

Oh joy, now the repair install wont go through because my install disk isn't an SP1 disk and whatever problem I am having seems to be preventing me from uninstalling SP1 Guess I will go post in the Installation help forum and go from there :sarc:

Cannot Uninstall SP1 to do a Repair Install

Alright so I already posted in the BSOD/Debugging forum and it came down to just doing a repair install and now I cannot do that because SP1 wont uninstall. SP1 Disk Cleanup was never run and it is in the Installed Updates list. Here is my post in the other forum, to start from the beginning with.

So maybe those files are called something else on the Windows 7 DVD? Not sure about that one.

But when I try to uninstall SP1 from the Installed Updates window, it just says that one or more updates were unable to install. When I try to uninstall from an elevated CP then I get a error window (window's title is Windows Update Standalone Installer) and it says: Installer Encouontered an error: 0x800b0100 - No signature was present in the subject.

I have tried running CheckSUR and that didn't fix anything, SFC still shows the same damaged manifests. I also found a forum post of someone suggesting placing all manifest files in the Windows\Temp\CheckSUR\Winsxs\Manifests folder and rerunning CheckSUR and that also didn't do anything, SFC log still shows the same 4 entries. CheckSUR doesn't tell me that it encounters any errors after it is done running, though.

So I want to Repair Install to fix my problem, but my problem seems to be preventing me from doing the Repair Install because I cannot uninstall SP1.

Help? Clean installs are such a pain especially if we can find a solution for others in the future

The Installation forums all say that you can't use a Slipstream disk to do a Repair Install, it gives you the same message of your current version being newer than that on the disk/.iso so I don't think that will work

I searched my computer for "microsoft-windows-capi2-certs" and came up with files in the attached picture. I then copied the files, zipped them, and they are attached, too. (I'm Win 7 Pro, 64-Bit, SP1)

I have no idea if this will help - it's pretty much what I tried without success when I had the similar problem before. This is at your own risk - I would backup any files it wants to replace and make a note of any that simply get added. I hope you have better luck than I did!

Not sure if it was your files in specific, but when I searched for them on my computer I found 5 of both the AMD and x86 files instead of 3 each. And I happened to remember that I once imaged an external drive with this install of Windows, before all these problems, and I was able to get the rest from that drive

And I now never want to open the Command Prompt ever again at least, not when I have filepaths THAT long!

Thank you, Prof took me tons of research and you pointing me in the right areas for it to get sorted, but it did!

Now the question is, should I still do that repair install? I suppose it would be better rather than worse in theory, but seeing some friends trying to Upgrade Install from Vista to 7 and all the problems they have had makes kinda nervous about that.

If SFC is happy and you are not having any other problems then I can see no need for a Repair Install. I'm glad to hear you're back in business.
