Solved SFC/Scannow shows spsys.sys error

Now how should I post its results over here... or what what needs to be done next...

A clean reinstall os the last reaort .. Thts not a good solution.. Tell me some other way as well .. I did the mem86+ on my laptop but no errors were found..

The assessment here was mostly a software related issue you mentioned was cleared up as far as the System File Checker logs and the spsys.sys error. The thread was marked solved since you didn't find any indication of any hardware fail.

As for the malwares your scan found those were likely data miners(text files used by sites to track browsing habits, etc.) being only minor annoyances. If you are seeing some type of problem you would need to be a little more specific on what that is. You are not giving us anything more to work with as far as finding any other solutions.

My system restore was also not working.. but not sure now weather it is working or not..

Have you been able to turn off the feature to clear out the present restore points and then re-enabled it to begin seeing if new ones are created? Often if you have had any malwares removed you would also dump the existing restore points to avoid any reinfection or they may have become corrupted.

Yes it can make auto restore points but i removed the previous ones coz I had doubts thats it may contain ang bring back the malwares which I removed earleir..
Is there any WDO for online purpose as well which I can check while I am doing some work on my Laptop as well.

If you are not running any av program presently I would suggest simply gving the trial version of VIPRE Internet Security 2013 a run. For that you simply provide a valid email address for them to send out a temporary activation code which enables the full features of the program. From the findings here over the last 2 1/2yrs. VIPRE has shown itself to be one of the best softwares found. This is one program that finds bugs hidden away in archives on second and third drives as well as any on the main OS drive.

Ok... I will install vipre and then run it.. If it finds out any errors and problems i will let know here.. Also, if there is any file related like logs of errors let me know; i will attach that as well..

You won't see any logs and wait for the automatic email to see the temp activation that will be sent out. The first thing is to get familiar with the various settings and where thing are located when you have the main screen up. Then you simply let it run a full system scan which will take a little longer depending on how much and how many drives you have.

Once the trial is going VIPRE will go through everything and list the results in a display window following the scan. You can use the snipping tool to grab a fast look at that while you can set VIPRE to automatically delete any bugs found rather then simply quaranteening anything.

While running the scan you can go do something else and not even know VIPRE is running. I've been running VIPRE here now simce May 2010 and found it generally surpassed all other av programs tried out. Even when set to auto delete bugs it will maintain a cleaning history for some time if you change the setting from delete after 15 days that is.

I RAN A FULL SCAN WITH vIPRE and it dound out some more Trojans and I deleted those from qurantine..
Now How do I post its results over here.. can you tell me...

also, I have core i7 laptop and its performance is becoming slow since it was before.. I mean when I start the laptop when the Windows screen appears it takes more time than it was earlier..

how can I improve it more..

When you right click on the icon in the System notification area or on the desktop shortcut to bring up the main gui simply go over to the Manage tab and you can look over the History as well as the Quaranteen sections to see the results. Then you can simply use the snipping tool to grab an image of what it found if you want.

I'm not in the least bit surprised to hear that VIPRE found more bugs. It's one updated software kept well maintained by GFI. This is one software that finds what others always seem to miss!

The only other program to find bugs hidden in zip files tucked away on a storage drive was the updated MS Security Essentials renamed Windows Defender found only the upcoming Windows 8. That tells alot about how effective the software is.

As far as the slowed down performance I ran into several problems that appeared once malware was removed from an older Vista laptop where the damage by the malware was more then what could be repaired. I hope you don't have to go through the whole process of a drive wipe and clean install to get Windows running good again. That wouldn't be good!



You wouldn't have to worry about VIPRE slowing things down any. It llives up to it's reputation of not chewing up system resources and bogging Windows down at startup. Clearing out the possibly contaminated System Restore points to see new ones start being created again and looking over the startup items for anything unnecessary in the msconfig utility is the usual recommendation to help with slow startups to lighten the load.

Now note even that is not any "cure all" if Windows is still having problems but the fast option to tweak things up a bit as far as the startup time is concerned. You may even solve one of the problems in case a startup proves to be a source for some of the errors you have been running into. That would be some type of software clash which can happen at times.

So, now the recommendation is to keep Vipre running.. and what exactly is the snipping tool .. I did not find out that in Vipre..

Also, the slow windows is in the starting where the Windows logo shows up and even after the windows is started it takes a bit more time than earlier for the programs to show up completly..

The Snipping tool isn't in VIPRE or any other av program. That's a small screen capture tool found in Vista and 7 going to Start>Programs>Accessories. You'll want to look over the guide for that over at the VistaForums tutorial section for use. How to Use the Snipping Tool in Vista - Vista Forums

Here's a look at the snipping tool taking a snipping of itself showing how easy that it to use.

Here I have that pinned right on the taskbar since it gets a lot of use! Once you grab the screens and save them to a specified folder the tool will automatically go to save the next snipping to the same place the next time you go to use it. As for the slower startup time you would need to review the list of startup items as well as any new programs added on lately that see startup items in the msconfig utility. One of those could be the cause.

If you have been doing any number of program addons or uninstalls lately something could be left over in the system registry pointing to something no longer installed which could be something requiring device or software drivers. Eusing has a free light weight and fast registry cleaner. Eusing Free Registry Cleaner 3.0 But be cautioned that overusing any registry cleaner can cause other problems if the programs starts removing valid entries.

The msconfig utility is still the better option for reducing startup items which can help at times when a program or two seems to be pulling Windows down a bit. The Startup and Services tabs are where to look once you check off the "hide all microsoft services" box for the Services to avoid disabling anything essential for Windows to run.

You can post a screenshot easy enough with the snipping tool. But that won't necessarily reveal which program in particular if any is to blame for the problems you have been having unless by disabling one or more startup things suddenly improve.

Certain items for your av protection as well as for video and sound you wouldn't disable right away. You have to selectively and more carefully choose one or two at a time. Or you select the disable all in the Startup tab only and see a vast improvement then re-enable items one at a time until the culprit is tnen revealed.

The Selective startup is mainly intended to customize the list of items that load up along with Windows. If a program has a bad install and is hampering a normal boot this is the system diagnostics method for isolating it. If all startup items are found to be good on the other hand then you have to look at other options like checking the fragmentation level on the drive, run Disk Check to scan and fix errors on the OS drive in particular, and the System File Checker to verify the main system files are present in good working order.

Even Windows updates are known to cause problems at times. Generally you would start running into error messages or things simply not functioning as they should however rather then just slowing the boot time down a bit. For gaming machines especially disabling startup items is an edge for improving overall performance rather then simply addressing any boot issues as one other thing to note.

The other thing you can watch that can be a useful tool is the number of processes. The task manager>processes tab can help while other tools like Handle v3.5 - Process Monitor v3.03 - Process Explorer v15.22 (MS TechNet tools) - SysMon (open source) are often the preferred tools since they often provide a little more details.

Unknown processes not linked to any program or device install might be traced back to the malwares you have been running into while VIPRE generally cleans everything off effectively and why it was recommended. With the firewall's web filtering however that will certainly keep more from getting on as you may have noticed some pages will now be blocked for some reason or other.

The other cause for concern in some cases would simply be errors in the system registry itself especially if your system is hit by a worm type virus where the present Windows installation may simply have to be replaced to clean things entirely. The first thing done after any malware or virus infection to prevent any reinfection would be turning the System Restore feature off for a session and then later back on to clear out the existing restore points.

Once back on you can manually create a few as well as automatically start seeing new ones created by Windows.. If the corruption in the registry as well as system files is too great and too many problems still arise the last resort brings you to the final choice of simply wiping the drive and starting all over with a clean install of Windows. Usually you reserve that however when all over options have been tried and none work.
