sfc /scannow unable to repair files

I've been having difficulties with my McAfee Internet Security installation--the real time scanner doesn't start, updates don't complete--and the level two techs at McAfee suspect they're related to some corrupt system files they discovered on running sfc /scannow. (They weren't able to explain which of these files might be the problem, or how, but we'll let that slide for the moment.)

Unfortunately those files are also apparently corrupt, or absent, in the store, and /scannow isn't able to repair them. I'd like to do a repair install, but it's an OEM windows installation so I don't have a system disc available and the images formerly available at Digital River are no more.

The sfcdetails.txt from the last running of sfc /scannow is attached. Can anyone point me to clean copies of the problematic files, or does anyone have any other suggestions?

I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional w/ SP1.

Hello and welcome Yeoman now I see you have been waiting for a reply for some time so I will have a try to help you.
Now you have run the sfc ok and as a matter of course I nearly always run this along with the sfc just to be sure
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Now this will attempt any repairs if you run the /f and especially the /r "switches"

Just because I am not a great lover of McAfee I am also wondering if the machine has fallen prey to some malware so run these too

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
ADW download from bleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
(NB If one is running Kaspersky security it may rant about ADW - just ignore it or disable Kaspersky while the ADW is being used)

As I said I do not like McAfee and my thoughts are that you might even think of trying another security brand.
Now also I notice you want to do a clean install now it just so happens there is an option in this tutorial whereby you can use any Windows installation disk of whatever version and use the ei.fcg unlocking tool so in theory you can borrow someone else's DVD say for Windows 7 Pro and install the Home version of it but you need to make sure it is the right bit version.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html if you need any help Greg is a wizard at getting you on track - just ask in the tutorial.
But try my suggestion first and let us know how you go :)

Thanks for the reply.

Chkdsk found no errors, and except for some browser tracking cookies all three scans you recommend were clean. (I had already run malwarebytes on the first sign of a problem; I ran it again today just to be sure.)

While there's no system installation disc, Lenovo does provide a recovery partition and if necessary I should be able to use that to do a clean install with the factory specs.

But what I'm hoping to be able to do is simply replace the corrupted files, what I believe is referred to as a "repair install", and it's not possible to access individual files on the recovery partition.

And I'm also curious if the list of files triggers any thoughts for anyone about what might have caused the problem in the first place. Would these have been bundled together in a particular windows update, for example?

OK well if you can just back up all your data before you do the factory restore as it will wipe the drive clean - to as it came out of the factory.

Best thing you could do is to do an image for the programs and the like. This is what a lot of us use and myself I back up using this at least once a week.
