SFC /scannow won't complete ... tried everything except a hammer

SFC /scannow won't complete and gets stuck at 58%. Same results when booting up in Safe Mode. Tried running an error check on boot by right clicking C*drive / properties/ tools/ check for errors and then re-ran SFC. Checked all the services options and they are OK. Checked the CBS log which confirms that there are numerous files that could not be repaired. I am sure that there must be another option than having to do a re-install. Haven't tried the OS repair option which I want to leave as a last recourse. Gone through numerous posts and forums without finding a real solution. TIA.

If you did everything in the blue Note box under step 4 of OPTION TWO in the tutorial below, then go ahead and post back with the sfcdetails.txt file created in OPTION THREE to see if the files that cannot be repaired are worth worrying about and going to the next level to try and repair them.

These instructions are to clean my HDD. Not interested in this approach at the moment. The HDD in question is a SSD with my OS installed on it which is Online (blue Note box under step 4 of OPTION TWO in the tutorial). Thanks anyway for the reply.

I have total of 4 HDD's on my system of which one is used as a Casper clone backup. There may be a space issue which may be the culprit and that I will resolve to see if that is the case.

Did you try to run SFC at boot to see if it may be able to finish there?

If so, and/or was unsuccessful in repairing the files, then a repair install should be able to.

Tried SFC at boot as well as in safe mode. Same results. Looks like a repair install may be in order. Thanks.
