Solved Sharing between 2 win7pro64 in workgroup network

I've just installed win7pro/64 on 2 computers on a workgroup network with file sharing enabled on the c drive of both computers and get the "no permission" message. I enabled the network selection to work rather than home or public. Looking for the cure.

With Windows 7 the default sharing is enabled by default from the C:>Users folder rather than from the root of the C: drive so it's best to change those settings back on the C: drive.

If you want to share any of the C:Users\Username folders then you need to add permissions via the advanced Sharing tab at the C:Users>Username folder, because by default this folder has a lock on it.

All this complication can easily be avoided by simply creating a Homegroup on one machine then joining the other machine to the Homegroup using the Homegroup password.

Thanks, I hope that will solve my problem. I was trying to avoid the home group and keep it in the work group because I'll be moving the computers to another location

No need to hope as setting up a Homegroup creates a secure password protected share between local clients without going into the NTFS files shares which is where the problems begin.

Once you move them to another network location you will need to set up the Homegroup again from scratch after leaving the original Homegroup on each machine.

This is the easiest and safest way to share files because setting up the Homegroup will prevent other Workgroup machines from accessing the shares unless you add the Everyone share to the shared with list.
