Shortcut Icons Picture Breaking

Hi, I'm new here, and found this page while looking for answers to a problem I have encountered already with my 1 week old Windows 7 laptop.

I have found that at random times, short cut link icon pictures break. When I try to fix the icon back to the default picture it does not change. Is there a fix for this?

I am wondering what you mean by the icon picture breaking? Here is some basic information about working with Icons on the desktop: The desktop (overview). It sounds like your problem goes beyond that.

Could you post a screenshot of this broken shortcut icon picture? This will helps us better determine what you may mean by this on whether it's the shortcut's arrow overlay icon, thumbnail preview, or icon itself.
