What is the shortcut keys for putting a Media PC to sleep within WMC? Without having to scroll down to Sleep/Shutdown at the bottom?

This is so I can program my remote to make my Media PC go to sleep instead of just exiting out of WMC and bringing up Windows shutdown dialogue box (about as much use as a chocolate fireguard!).

Thanks kind folk.

  • create a new text file and put this on it
rundll32 powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState
  • save it as "standby.bat" and create a shortcut of it on the desktop( or user folder)
  • right-click the shortcut, select properties and edit its shortcut key to CTRL + ALT + S
now CTRL + ALT + S will put your computer in standby.

Thanks a lot. I'm surprised this isn't asked more often?

Also as I am using a programmable remote (Harmony) I think only certain keystrokes have been setup, so if I make a custom shortcut using those keys, I won't be able to map my remote to use them I don't think.

So for example, how would I take a recognised 'hotkey' such as "Win+E: Open Windows Explorer" remove Win+E so it doesn't open explorer and will be used instead to put the computer in standby/sleep?

Thank you.

i would think you could just use a different set of hotkeys i would use win key and z, although if i remember correctly when you map a set of hotkeys to a shortcut then it adds ctrl as the first key by default. so i guess its a case of trial and error for you to see if it will work on your remote.

it occurred to me that you will have a power off/on button on the remote and you could possibly find a way that when its pressed it goes to sleep instead of shutting down. worth looking into
