Show us your hard drive performance

dont worry about your min speeds, that is simply the hdd being accessed by the o/s. you need to look at the average min speeds, in your case it is around 35-40mbps. you cant help the fluctuant droops unless you boot from another physical drive then test the other drive not in use in hd tune.

even if you disable most background services, disable pagefile and what ever else, you will still get droops from the o/s access.

ok thanks ... then I won't worry about that :)

SSD seems to be getting faster!

It's strange, I've been using this SSD for a few weeks and I have installed new firmware and used a "performance restore utility" HDTune shows it getting faster. My last average was 212Mb/s - Now it's 222.2Mb/s :):DHdlove.PNG

I thought I was on to something when I found this thread but now it seems that I'm not. My HD Tune results are attached for reference. Now here's my issue:

When I/O is happening to my RAID 5 array (2TB), The system is extremely sluggish. As soon as I stop I/O, the system works great! It doesn't have to be aggressive HDD usage to cause the issue (even a verify of the array causes it to happen). A snapshot of Storage Manager is attached.

I thought I was on to something as I am using three Seagate ST31000S40AS drives for my array and I am using the same controller ICH10R on a Gigabyte EX58-UD3R mobo.

I have also attached a snapshot of results from Passmark's PerformanceTest. I am VERY DISTURBED by the sequential Write speed and the Random Seek + RW results of that test. Any thoughts?

Complete Specs:
MOBO: EX58-UD3R
CPU: i7-920
Memory: 6GB PC308500 (running triple channel) OCZ
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 3600
PSU: 750 Watt
OS: Windows 7 Build 7100
- I can download this from Technet if someone thinks the build is newer but I am pretty sure it is the same one that I have installed. en_windows_7_ultimate_rc_x64_dvd_347803.iso

I have reinstalled Windows 7 and have had the issue each time. Drivers / BIOS / Firmware are all the newest I can find for all devices. (Except the NIC driver that Windows Update wants to install that causes the NIC to stop working).

My apologies if it seems I'm trying to hijack this thread but it's the only place I have seen anything remotely close to my issue.

I won't speculate what is going on with your drive but it is an older model.

Here are the specs for it though: Legacy Product Specifications : WD300BB

The results you posted do not agree.

If I were you I would backup any important personal information on that drive for safekeeping ASAP.

I would also suggest reseating all the cable connections and trying the test again.

Okay final results are in and the grand total is less than a minute!!

Question remains: Why use a PATA/IDE drive (an old one to boot) when the ASUS P5B-VM MOBO has 5 SATA ports?

If you want better HD-Tune results upgrade the HDD ro a SATA II drive. In the meantime, my suggestion that the critical data on that drive be backed up stands.

I use it because my DVD drive uses IDE cables too.

You can mix and match SATA and IDE on the same PC. And you can also get a new DVD drive that uses SATA.
