For the OS, the transfer rate is relatively irrelevant. It is the Access time that counts. But the relatively small difference would probably not justify a reinstallation (unless you want to do it for other reasons anyhow).

I have no other reason to re-install Windows so if you tell me that there will be no interests with running on my WD rather than on the Samsung HDD then I won't do it. :p
Maybe a Raid0 would be interesting to increase the overall speed of my system don't you think?

The small difference in access time will probably hardly be noticeable. The same problem with Raid. It speeds up the tranfer rate, but not the access time. But the OS typically transfers small amounts of date, however it has to get to it fast (access time). Raid is interesting for moving large amounts of data. So if you want a data partition to which you frequently move videos or other large files, then Raid might be in order. But even then it is more of an academic excercise than of practical value. The few seconds you save may not be worth the cost, effort and added complexity, plus the risks especially in a Raid0 setup. I a mirrored Raid that would be different, but that is another story.

Sounds clear for me now, I appreciate your help thank you ;)
I got some interesting informations about Raid0 and Raid1, it looks pretty difficult and exaustive indeed (for a very small difference at the end, as you said). I decided not to change my configuration, at least until I'll get another HDD or even SSD.
Anyway, the results of the tests of my two HDD are not so bad at all, I am glad to have some great stuff even if I did not care about it till yesterday! ^^

Is there a significant difference between AHCI and IDE modes? Wiki didn't help me so much...

My MB default setting is the IDE mode but I have never tested to put it into the other one like you did.

Don't change it to AHCI on your installed system. That will give you problems. AHCI is supposed the better choice for SSDs - although I have never tested the difference.

Yeah, it's not that AHCI would really throw you in an entirely new dimension of computer experience, it's simply one of those things you do just because you can.

OMG I tried to shut down my computer 2hours ago and guess what, screen and HDD actually stopped but that's all! CPU's, GPU's and case's fans did not. I disabled the AHCI and it solves the problem.
It certainly comes from an error in the BIOS, I dunno. So for now I let the IDE mode enabled, I will probably make an entire system cleaning and reformating next week, I will switch back to AHCI at the same time :)

Make sure to slipstream RAID drivers for your chipset/controller into your XP installation CD if you happen to run an XP/Win7 dual-boot system!
...but as far as I remember you have a floppy drive so you can also use the 'press F6 to load drivers from Floppy method'.

soon I'll get one of those fast ocz drives and pop it in my old p4 478 comp.
