I get consistently low scores with the AS Tester, but with the other testers the same you have used my score are around the 230-250 mark. I tend to believe that the other one's can't all be wrong

Each benchmark program runs tests in a slightly different way.

AS SSD runs some of the tests to check performance of the NCQ, which is a SATA AHCI function, so those running in IDE mode will see a decrease in scores.
SATA AHCI and NCQ does have benefits for performance as well as the ability to use the Trim function.
The IDE or SATA driver is noted on the results page.

The scores are weighted for significance to OS performance.
Sequential read and write aren't as important as random read and to a lesser extent random write when it comes to the most useful attributes of SSDs when gauging actual real world OS performance.

Their formula for the scores:
Final score:
Seq write x 0.15
Seq read x 0.10
4k read x 2
4k write
4k-64thrd write
4k-64thrd read x 1.5
The sum equals the final score.

Read:
Seq read x 0.10
4k read
4k-64thrd read
The sum equals the read score

Write:
Seq write x 0.10
4k write
4k-64thrd write
The sum equals the write score

Each benchmark should be used to compare your SSD/HDD to what others get with the same SSD/HDD, or how your SSD/HDD compares to other brand/models.
In either case it's best to compare with the same benchmark program.

As promised after upgrading to the new OCZ SSD, here's the benchmark comparisons between the old 2 x 750GB Samsung HDD HD753LJ SATA in RAID 0 vs 50 GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD.

Hopefully you have latest FW for SSD. GC help maintain that SSD proper.

A guy at the OCZ forums uses a 6 drive SSD array, 800mb/s reads and
1400mb/s writes.

Brink, so after the results, what is your honest opinion of SSDs? Are they worth the investment?

Shawn, thanks for the comparison info, very interesting stats.

The biggest question for me is, do you see a noticeable increase in performance?

The first four snips indicate that you do.

The last two snips are very interesting, if you disregard the 'Disk - Random Seek +RW' for comparison, the RAID0 appears to have a slight edge in numbers.
The 'Disk - Random Seek +RW' result is a nearly 30 fold increase over the RAID0. This shows the importance of the random seek properties of the SSD for overall performance.

They are fast.
They are quiet.
They use less energy.
Windows 7 is optomized for SSD's.
Its about the money, $/byte. Soon spin drives will be relagated to back up drives only. SSD's are expensive, but notice that its mostly terabyte spin drives available now. Very costly as well.

Sorry for the late reply. If one gets the latest generation SSD drives with a fast random read/write time, then oh yes they are worth it. Fast, very fast.
