Lady Fitzgerald, can you open up device manager and locate this card reader and see if there are any warnings?

Tried that and couldn't find it. If it's there, it's under some oddball name.

From the manufacturers website:

In Device Manager, the drivers will be installed in “Disk Drives” and “Universal Serial Bus Controllers” or “Portable Drives”.

I can find the USBs but nothing else. I don't have Portable Drives.

Too many ports that I don't need and/or already have.

Sorry thought I was thinking you needed a card reader as you said you had one sent in the mail and it didn't work??

Oh no, you're fine. It's just that that reader has four USB 2.0 ports I can't use because I don't have any more headers (not to mention I have ten USB 2.0 in the back and two on the front). I need the USB 3.0 ports but I can't tell if the card slots are USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 (I want the reader to run off USB 3.0 so I can take advantage faster cards). I already have an e-SATA port in the rear and one in the front. I also already have a microphone and headphone port in the front.

Ok no probs Lady Fitz but it has two x 3.0 and an eSata as well but the problem is I think it isn't available in the US anyway I thought you were after those card slots, and more 3.0 ports.

I have these because the ports at the rear are very limited and I am using the SD lsot and USB porst all the time cos of the easy access.

More like conundrum. The only other computer I have is my notebook. The reader has to be powered by a four pin Molex so I used the cable I had temporarily hooked up to the power supply on my new rig (I've been bench testing it before going to the hassle of putting it in the machine only to have to pull it out again if things went pear shaped, which, sadly they did) to power the thing and hooked up the USB 3.0 cable to a USB 2.0 port on the notebook. Again, I got the popup saying a generic USB driver had been installed but the stupid reader just sat there and laughed at me.

I hooked the stupid thing (I have more accurate names for it but Mama told me not to use those words) back up to my new rig and finally found the driver in Devices and Printers as a generic USB hub. As I said before, the USB 3.0 ports work; it's just the *&^%$#@! card reader that is AOL, DOA, FUBAR, etc.

I also recognized it and I suppose you could call me a winter chicken but not quite that old. I only date back to '49; the expression dates back to the '20s.

My ASUS P9X79 WS defaults to 1333 but can be set up to 1600 without overclocking.

Talking about new hardware taking a dump...I just picked up my new card reader from my mail service today and I can't get the stupid thing to work. The USB 3.0 ports work but the card reader won't read cards. Heck, the computer doesn't even see it. I have an inquiry in to the mfg. but, if I don't get this thing working by tomorrow evening, I'm getting a RMA from NewEgg and shipping it back.

I have one of those and love it! It puts my USB ports up front where they are reachable and useful. A plus was being able to get rid of a separate card reader. It took some fiddling with to fit my case though.

hey bud i use speccy it give me the information but just odd how mine says Nvidia gtx 680 and nothing else, i am thinking about a third party air cooler but have to be careful which one i use has I have high profile ram.

Today is a good day... I finally managed to make a plan for my new PC case.

I should hopefully get it early next week, but I just paid for a second hand Corsair Graphite 600T White (with mesh and window sidepanels, all accessories, original packaging and in mint condition) for a mere R1300 (ZAR). I'd say that's quite a bargain..

If you mean the closed loop cooler then yes that will be ok. You don't get any clearance issue's with a closed loop cooler, the only thing you need to worry about is if you have space for the radiator.

Oh yeah, I'll definitely post pics when I get it... It's probably one of the most awesome "upgrades" I've given my PC in a long time. Besides, my current case has become somewhat cramped over the last few years.

That I have, but most of the places I found this case were closer to R2000 or shipping was a problem. Originally I actually had my sights set on a CM Cosmos (either the RC1000 or RC1100), but that would probably still set me back something like R3000 or R3500 these days in this country.

However, when I first saw the original 600T middle of last year (plain black, no window), I decided that was going to be my next case. I'll be honest, I really didn't think I'd get a white one, but it does have numerous improvements in design over the previous models. Heck, I plan to mod it, so who knows, maybe one day it suddenly won't be white anymore....

Edit: Speaking of modding. My first plan when the case arrives is to strip it completely and check how it's put together, I want to see if I can design and make a case handle that compliments the rest of the case and doesn't get in the way of the fan spaces on top... It will be my first major mod.

Ok guys, some new exciting changes for penguin. My SSD and Case have come in. I did a initial case transfer and put in my new Crucial M4 256gb SSD. I have some pics. I am not done installing WIN7 on the SSD. I did the initial install, but I was rather tired so I left it vanilla. The drivers and all the goodies will be installed this weekend or after the holidays. Here are some initial pics. By the way, the case is called Akasa Venom Toxic Gaming Big tower, and let me tell you...it's HUGE. It came with 3 fans installed..1 120mm fan and 2 200mm fans ( I think )..they are HUGE. I have also upgraded to a 650 watt Chieftec modular PSU.
