Welcome mate. Today it's easier than ever to build your own rig with exactly what you want in it. The very first thing I did was replace a CD/ROM, that went well so when a power supply went bad I replaced that too.

I say go for it. You won't be sorry. But, be careful it can be habit forming. It's an addiction. Just ask most of the guys on this thread. Yes, we're all enablers, Bill. and FalikAlfonse, welcome to the forums. If you need advice or help building it, you can get all you want right here. Most of us, live for that. But, we demand pictures.

I was in your position too just 3 years ago. I payed to have a pc built for me as i had no knowledge of pc's but wasn't happy with the outcome. So i started doing small change's which escalated very quickly into a never ending upgrade habbit. You learn as you go without realising.

That's what happened to me. I paid a recommended builder to build a PC for me and never was happy with what I got. After seeing people online who had built their own, I started studying up on how to do so and asked a bajillion questions until I finally built up my nerve just recently and built the thing. The guys here were a huge help getting the thing running and set up properly. Hopefully, it will last me for the next seven years because I won't be able to afford to build another one before then.

In regards to building a computer yourself, I find this quote from Eisenhower helpful: “In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.”

Ask as many questions as you can come up with before you spend a single dime. Decide what your needs are, don't worry about future proofing or world record benchmarking. In fact, don't worry about anything because it is suppose to be fun! More people will help you mock up a computer than you can count, so don't worry about having to go at it alone. Then when you get the parts, it's like a great big Lego set for adults. When you are ready, you'll have all the help you need!

I purchased 4 Cooler Master Excalibur 120mm fans for my case so here is a pic of them. Those darn fans are expensive compared to other 120mm's, they set me back around 100 dollars on Amazon . I also took a pic of my sound card and my SSD and my Limited Edition Tron video game controller ( don't ask ) And yes, I was in bed playing video games when the Tron pic was taken so no laughing Next set of pics will be of a new PCIE raid card 6gb x4 Sata, and Mushkin Enhanced ram

Yes. Quite a few, in fact. Here are a few that show the cooler.

I replaced the hideous looking 120mm cooler fan with a better looking 140mm.

I made a few mods to the case (such as adding cable routing holes and grommets and sealing a few dust entry points) and custom made most of the PSU cables to keep clutter down.

I am using a Akasa Venom Toxic Gaming Big tower ( Black ). All my info is in my system specs.

LadyF, that has to be the cleanest back wring job. I've re-done mine 3-4 times and it's still looks like macramé-ed rats' nest.
