Martin I have only seen cases which have a door on the front to hide optical drives. I did a rebuild of an old hp Presario case which had them behind a panel like Bungee described.

Most cases I see anymore either don't bother to provide a way to hide the optical drive or they "hide" everything behind a hinged front panel (usually to deaden noise).

Just a random question... does anyone have the HAF X? If so, how did you solve the CD drive problem? Pic attached to show what i mean...

This one, you can take off/put the covers back on, but you have to manually remove them everytime you want to use your drive. There must be a more elegant solution.

I have a HAF X and there is no other solution that I know of. I just set it flush with the outside of the case and have it there. It's either that or set it in and remove the cover.

Here's an idea...

I've seen some HTPC cases that have a plain, brushed aluminum front panel. They include a matching piece that sticks on the front of the optical drive (attached to the drawer with double-sided tape).

It would be a bit of work and bother, but perhaps you could modify one of the "filler" panels of your HAF X to be attached to your drive. It would be a killer look if it was well executed.

I may try it on my HAF 932. It currently has two optical drives, but of course they are off-white so really stand out (that's why you never see the front of my rig in the very few pics I've posted).

Hmm...the more I think about it, the more I like it. I won't be able to do it immediately, but I think I'll definitely do it.

That looks so cool! Especially the part that looks like a light remote control in the front. That would be an awesome tweak, a rechargeable detachable remote control for the computer, to control the fans, LED lights and such. Hmmm gives me an idea Nice solid case Has that Ford Mustang 91' 5 liter color to it

I am still thinking about designs and stuff, I think something in just red and black would be cool, but I really need to think about a theme/design.

Thanks Cranky, it's a basic case that Compaq sold a ton of. HP had a slightly different version. Good idea on the removable remote, that is the power switch and LED with the HDD activity light below.

This is the solution I've gone with so far. I considered seeing if I could jerry rig it to press the button when I push it, but I believe that the latches would still interfere, even if it was stuck to the drive. I ended up just taking the thing off, but it makes my case look horrible IMO, which is a shame as it's such a well designed case in all other aspects. It boggles me that was the one thing nobody thought of!

Is you opto drive beige in a black case? I think nearly all of us have exposed drives except the OEM cases.

Most of the mod sites have tutes for modding the covers to attach to the drive. The button is the hard part. There are also custom drive covers available, but matching the grill is hard. A Guy

True, almost every case I have owned, except the switch 810, has had exposed drives. It really does not bother me. Besides, look at the design of the case. It is an excellent case very well laid out and put together and solid as a rock. But, elegant was never the intent of Cooler Master for the entire HAF line.

Oh yes, i can't complain too much, it's definitely the most well designed case I've ever had it's just the one thing that bothers me about it. It doesn't look that bad, but just one of those "would be nice" things, so thought I'd ask the question. At least it's a black drive.

Excuse the wiring mess... you normally can't see that, but I popped the back cover to install a new HDD.

I've been meaning to put some pics up for a while... I love the clean wiring of this case. My phone decided for some reason it doesn't like the lighting, even though it took one just fine 2 minutes ago

hehe thanks, it's a complete mess behind the other cover, but you can't see that, so I don't mind.

The only thing i haven't done is fit the wheels. Somehow with a case just under a meter tall, I don't think that's what they mean by mobile computing.

I won't be praising Corsair customer service so quick next time. That psu i'm trying to rma is still sat here. They replied to my rma request with a shipping label and nothing else, No comments or anything 6 days ago. So i replied saying that the cost of shipping from the uk to the Netherlands would be as much as the psu cost's and that this pc is needed as my daughter has just started high school and now has no pc. I'm still waiting for a reply

If your in the UK (as your flags suggest), next time I would try Novatech. They are really good, when I built this rig, I was getting BSODs that pointed to a bad GPU.

They took it back, tested it, sent it back to Gygabite when they couldn't find anything wrong with it, all completely free of charge (well a couple of quid postage... but if it goes over £8 you can pay for a pre-paid box from them. It turned out it was my PSU in the end, nothing really wrong with it, my graphics card was just trying to pull more power on the 12V rail than it was rated for. Learnt my lesson that day... I thought it seemed a bit cheap for the specs. Hope you get it sorted soon anyway =/.

Yes mate i'm in the uk. I usually use can or Aria pc but just to save a few quid i used DABS and when i went to rma though them i found that it was a few days over the 12month return period they offer. So it has to go to Corsair.
I've heard a lot of good things about Novatech but haven't used them as yet.

Thats a very kind offer of the psu chap thanks but i'll get it sorted soon enough. If need be she can use her laptop
Besides it's always good to keep a spare knocking around.

Edit: Corsair finally got back to me so hopefully they'll move a tad faster now
