It's been a solid and reliable SSD so far.

Did you ever try running it on the iaStor port?

I don't think I did Gary, but no time to do it now, I am stripping the rig down first thing in the morning, switching to Sandy E for a few months next week then Haswell if it's any good

Question for all you smart guys and gals. There is a new IRST driver. I have a vague memory of having installed one at some point. If I am using the iaStorA driver, then I must have correct? Any opinions on updating?

Bill, some smarter people might respond soon but to me that is the latest IRST driver from intel. Most motherboards have a version specific version for their respective boards.

Bill, I find that when you get a certain Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver that is bug free with your hardware that it is best to stick with that one. I just read the release notes and it doesn't do anything ground breaking in my opinion. I looked on the Asus Sabertooth download page and the current version on there is 11.1.0.1006 and that is what I'm running and have no problems with it.

Of course, you could always be a guinea pig and give it a try!

Thanks Doug, my MB is "older" now, so the driver on their support page is V10.5.0.1026 from 6/11. I currently have 11.6.0.1030 from 9/12. I don't think they continue to offer any newer, for good or bad.

Yeah, I'm generally in the "if it aint broke" camp. I recently updated 2 drivers that the BSOD team thought could be an issue though. I guess I'll leave well enough alone.

LOL.......good job Doug! I'd run with that version for awhile and if it doesn't cause any problems, rock and roll with it! Like Bill said, the Random 4K numbers jumped up a good notch, and that is what you can physically feel.

Hmm, my old SSD shows this strange result (of course, that's the system drive, with the same system where the test was run). Does it meat it's time to change it?

That does not look too bad. The first half is probably due to something else running off the SSD. But your access time is OK - and that's what counts.

Now I do like the Samsung's personally but I only want a small one for testing and the cheapest I can get from my usual supplier is the Fujitsu S306 64GB SSD for $79 but I do see it has the Sandforce controller so am wondering if anyone has had any experience with this brand.

Otherwise I shall have to wait and get the Samsung 840 Pro 120GB for $30 more.

I think that would be a much better deal in the long run. $79 for the Fujitsu is not all that great. I bought a 60GB Mushkin for $59 half a year ago (from Newegg on sale) and that works great. It costs $5 more right now.

Thanks Wolfgang I got it wrong it is not the Pro one just an ordinary 840 the Pro was double the Fujitsu.

As it is the spare laptop I might even consider a 7200 spinner it really isn't critical to be super fast.

I would install the 60GB Mushkin SSD. At a later time you can always use it for something else.

Complete SSD novice here. Just performed a benchmark test on the Intel SSD330 series. Do not know what the results meant. Please help to enlighten me.



Where can i read more about this? What is the meaning of
Sequential read/ write,
4K read/ write,
4k - 64thrd,
Acc time.

Also, what is the best SSD benchmark tool out there? And how do i improve the performance of the SSD on windows 7?
