The Samsung 840 Pro is a good SSD. Even better is the new OCZ Vector.I am considering buying a 250 gig for none other then my laptop. The laptop is a few years old so I won't use the SSD complete potential. With that in mind, there is one drive I read that is phenomenal and that is the Samsung 840, does anyone have experience with this drive (Recently bought a Kingston HyperX) ?
The sandforce drives are at present the cream of the crop, any recommendations for a SandForce drive, or would the Samsung 840 be an excellent choice ?
10-4 to that Kelly. My recommendation for a sandforce drive: don't buy one.
+1 Gary the Crucials aren't that bad either10-4 to that Kelly. My recommendation for a sandforce drive: don't buy one.
Samsung manufactures their own nand and controller so have complete control on the product.
Drives with a Sandforce controller aren't top dog anymore. I personally won't own one because of the trouble with them......had 2 Intel 520's leave a bad taste in my mouth. There are far better choices out there today that put sandforce drives in their place. Also, just because your current laptop won't benefit from(I'm guessing) SATA III, that doesn't mean you might not find another home for it, so get a good one and get your moneys worth out of it. I can recommend the Samsung 840 Pro.....I'm pretty sure you are meaning the regular Samsung 840, but I'd get the 840 Pro instead. Also, the new OCZ Vector, Corsair Neutron GTX and the Plextor M5 Pro are all premium SSD's that are at the top of the heap in terms of performance. Based on last generations 830, I have to give the nod to the 840 Pro in terms of reliability and performance.
My recommendation for a sandforce drive: don't buy one.
Those numbers look like it's on a SATA II port.Need help here. Dell XPS 8300 Win7 Home Premium, 1.5TB HDD, 8GB memory. OS is on my SSD Intel 520 Series, 120GB.
Is this SSD up to standard or too slow. I still have a chance to return and get the Samsung 840 series. TIA
Those nums do not look too bad. But I never use Chrystal - if you could post Atto numbers, it would be easier to compare.Need help here. Dell XPS 8300 Win7 Home Premium, 1.5TB HDD, 8GB memory. OS is on my SSD Intel 520 Series, 120GB.
