SSD memory cells have a limited read/write number of cycles, last I read it was 3000 read/write per cell. As it is used the total performance starts to deteriorate albeit very slowly, hence those scores drop slightly.
As it stands a SSD can have 5GB per day written to it for several years before failure. I'm just very picky.

Any good quality SSD will outlive the computer it's in more than likely. I think the number of cycles depends on the quality of the drive as some are 3000, some are 5000 and enterprise drives are even higher. I always go back to that poor old Samsung 830 being tortured.......poor thing had almost 7 Petabytes of data written to it before it went tits up. It should be noted that he was moving and saved the Samsung until the last possible minute so he would have the shortest powered down time possible. He was hesitant about powering down the system testing it, and had his route planned out so it would only be down about 10 minutes. He was right, when he powered the system back on, the drive wouldn't function properly. The average user wouldn't wear out 1% of a good SSD with normal use.

That would be my take too. That's why I never worry about R/W activity.

What is more detrimental to performance is if you do not have Trim in either an older SSD or in e.g. Vista or Linux. That will really slow performance down over time.

Yes I know the SSDs are pretty reliable and I'm sure I'll die before one of my SSDs. However the first 840 Pro I had went from a AsSSD score of 1183 to under 300 in less than a week under normal use. Because of that I'm really paranoid and watchful of any performance decreases.

The 4K read/write on that drive went from (as I can best remember) 54/131 to 27/48 just before I returned it. Still good numbers, but I didn't pay $239 to have a $150 drive.

I don't know how accurate the free SSD Life is, but when it was at 99% it said life was January 2021, I picked up 50 years, lol. It also says it's written 7.55 terrabytes. We should have a Show us your SSD Life thread, lol.

I don't think SSD life is very accurate. I have had this one for about 6 weeks and on 24/7. IT can't read the Crucial total writes either.
Bill it shows yours had 80GB free on a 80GB drive.

Re-enabling write cache

This might have been mentioned before, but – – – sometimes write caching and turning off Windows write cache buffer does not take. I had rejiggered my system and noticed that while my overall Raid 0 speeds remained fairly good, my 4K write speeds seemed a little low from what I remembered. After playing around, I tried switching off (disabling) write caching and enabling buffer flushing on the drive and then restarting before turning on write caching and turning off buffer flushing.
As you can see from, before and after, AS SSD runs that there is a substantial difference in 4K write speeds. Incidentally I did reduce my OP between the runs but that should not have affected the AS SSD results.

Hey guys,

I'm having performance issues (LAG mostly) on M4 128GB and I'd like to know whether its safe to add the TRIM option with my current setup , and what else also might help improving the performance

My setup is 1 M4 128GB and 1 Toshiba 512GB HDD on a Dell laptop (no Raid) (AHCI enabled on BIOS)

updated the M4 128GB to its latest firmare (070H) , performed the AS SSD Benchmark (image attached)

I'm not sure whether its safe to perform it with additional HDD, and what exactly does the command do accept for adding the deletion process? is it erasing something or Is it safe to apply the command on my current OS with no data loss on the SSD/HDD

what do you think might be the lag problem? and what do you recommend besides the TRIM option?

Unless you have specifically disabled trim, it should be on by default. Trim will not effect any other drives. If however, the trim has been disabled, enabling it would help your SSD.
What is the usage capacity off your SSD? If it is greater than 70% and trim is not enabled then you might experience a lag.
2 suggestions: –
Try not to exceed 70% capacity.
Leave the system in the logged off state overnight to allow the SSDs garbage collection process time to clean up.
