Lava King, I'm not real familiar with your CPU and board, but IF you can use the Intel iastor.sys SATA driver the score and performance would be better.

Bit OT but am looking at swapping out a basic 840 for either the EVO or the 840 Pro. Now the differences in the performance are really quite close however the price is VERY different the Pro being $60 more than the EVO so any ides on what I should get?. Not a gamer or OC racer so the reason is mainly my boot and general running speeds.

Well, I have both and can recommend the EVO John. With the Magician software you can use Rapid Mode on the EVO to boost performance. Rapid Mode is a 1GB RAM Disk which uses RAM as a disk cache.

I don't think you'll see a difference in real world performance going from the 840 to the EVO or Pro. I wouldn't upgrade just for the sake of upgrading if it were me.

No well I had two reasons really one was a bit more speed in the Ivy if that is possible if not doesn't matter, and the the drive coming out will probably be used to swap out the SanDisk Extreme in the laptop. If I don't do that it will keep for the next build if there is going to be another a the Z77 boards are very scarce right now and watching the problems with the Z87 stuff I don't really want to go there.

I think you are right. The real life performance will be probably very close with either of those options. The OS performance is ruled by the access time and anything around 0.1ms is as fast.

Even if we ignore the pitfalls, I can't help but wonder whether RAPID mode's performance benefits would be perceptible to typical users. We didn't see an improvement in load times, and our test system didn't feel any snappier with the RAPID cache enabled. SSDs already have near-instantaneous access times measured in fractions of a millisecond. Lowering those access times even further may have diminishing benefits for desktop workloads.
Although I wouldn't recommend that folks enable RAPID mode as it exists right now, I am encouraged to see Samsung exploring new ways to speed up its SSDs. RAPID mode definitely has the potential to become more appealing as it matures, and it won't be restricted to the 840 EVO for long.

Those are THE best 4K numbers I've ever seen. Those are also the numbers that actually mean something, but it's not enough of a difference to actually feel because SSD's are so fast already. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it though
