Strange, I thought I'd try to knock those 290s down so I upped my core clock by another 10MHz and my score dropped, so I upped by another 10MHz (30MHz boost in total) and my score dropped even lower.

Could be throttling due to temps? I used to run power target at max and temp target at 92C with the priority set to temp. It would never reach 92C but it never throttled.

Temps stayed level at 80°C throughout every single run, whether I left the fan profile at Auto (went up to about 50%) or whacked it up manually to 70%. Temps I get are always 80°C when gaming so it definitely wasn't a temp issue. I upped the Memory clock too to see if that was the issue but nothing beat (or even equaled) the 10MHz boost. Weird.

I think the first throttle point on the 780's is 70C and the second throttle point is 80C. If you don't have the temp target set above 80C then it will be throttling it to a certain degree. So no matter how much MHz you add on is irrelevant as it will always be throttling the card back down to keep the temps lower.

I think that's right, but I just woke up and I am having my first coffee so I could be wrong :roflmao:

There is nothing wrong with it hitting 80C or even more. It's just that if you set the temp target at say 90C it stops the throttling on a benchmark run so your score will be better. I would not use a temp target that high for gaming though.

I always set the fans to 100% for benching anyway.

I haven't seen a temp target option within Afterburner to be honest mate, is it worth using a different program or is there an option for that in Afterburner?

I only use the card at stock for gaming, it gives me everything I need so there's no point pushing it. The highest I've had my fans for the bench is 70% set manually, they never go over 55% on Auto which I presume is down to the card throttling.

OK, with +20MHz on the core clock, temp target at 90% I got the result below. I'll carry on going up in 10MHz increments before adding to the memory clock. I set my fans to 100% and put my chassis fans on turbo and got lower temps than before (around 75°C) so there's still some wiggle room yet.
