but i was told not to worry thus the WEI doesn't really make the performance on any pc any different

And I told you that. But, it is true. WEI is not a performance test and was never intended to be one. It is nothing more than just a general guideline of the computer. BTW, good scores, congratulations on a real good build.

Welcome to Seven Forums a1goodidea. I have a suggestion, forget about the WEI :) Enjoy the power, shooting for 7.9 for CPU is a waste of your time, and effort. A Guy

You can get a 7.9 CPU score by getting an 8 core CPU and overclocking it to about 5.0. Of course, that CPU hasn't been made yet.:D

I do not think a 7.9 is do-able now, but a 7.8 is with a 6core, 980,990, or the upcoming 995, $500 - $1,000 more for a .1, in a WEI score, well that's your call. bellow is with a 980, 3 SSD's in raid 0 and 2 GTX 580's in SLI, same score 4.2 or 4.4, and 12G of 2000 speed memory, in a EVGA 760.

I believe you should be able to buy something off the shelf without overclocking it and be able to get a 7.9. Doesn't overclocking void the warranty? Why would Microsoft have a rating that can't be reached by any of their products? I mean all the other ratings can be obtained without any overclocking or tweaks, why not the cpu? I would like to know what exactly that cpu score tests.

1 reason
make customers update more frequently!
why do you think the maximum is 7.9 instead of 10?
small fonts do the job

I think there should be an intel cpu that you could buy and it gives you a 7.9 right out of the box. It shouldn't be more than one cpu since sli doesn't factor in either.

WEI isn't intended to be a benchmark per se, it came out just after Vista to show people what they might need to upgrade to get Vista and Areo to work.

It was also intended to let you know what software would run on your system, are your graphics good enough for a certain game, etc.

The unobtainable CPU score of 7.9 is a marketing strategy that is responsible for a lot of high end CPU sales ;)
I think Intel and AMD had a little input in this area

Dave76 is absolutely right on. WEI is not a benchmark and was never intended to be one. The only problem is that we have made it one, thus the reason for this thread. To me, the only purpose it serves is a general idea how my computer functions. If I have a GPU that scores 6.8 on WEI and I update it and score 7.5, it would be reasonable to assume I have a better video card than the one I had before. That is the only real purpose for WEI. And, it does not mean that if your card scores 7.3 then I have a better card than you.
