Do you have CPU-Z? If not, download it (either the installer or portable), and post screenshots of the Memory and SPD tabs. It's quite possible you motherboard is running the Ram at 1066MHz natively, and that the timings are wrong. Does the system show 4GB Ram available?
Yes I do. And the system does show 4gb of RAM.

According to your CPUZ tabs you only have one RAM card. This will be in single channel mode, which will be slower and therefore lower WEI score.

You must have at least two RAM cards to be in Dual channel mode, which gives you two channels for the RAM to access twice the volume and will be faster.

Kicksilver,

Really you want to find out exactly what make/model your 1 stick of ram is. I believe some sticks cannot run in dual channel mode.

To be certain of good performance ideally you want to buy a set of dual channel ram.

Cheers

Paul.

Yes you should get a kit. Those have matched modules so it's guaranteed that they work together. Both of my kits are Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/4G. Notice the difference in naming: K2.

Dual channel is faster then single channel, is all.

e.g. 2x 2GB stick pair > 1x 4GB stick :p

Not guaranteed. It could work or not.

If not, then you would still get 8GB of ram working but without dual channel mode.

Correct, it depends on your memory controller.

Mixing RAM is risky at best, if you do then get the same brand, same frequency, same timing, and your chances are pretty good. It might take some settings adjustment to get it working stable.

Dual-channel architecture
Dual-channel architecture requires a dual-channel-capable motherboard and two or more DDR, DDR2 SDRAM, or DDR3 SDRAM memory modules. The memory modules are installed into matching banks, which are usually color coded on the motherboard. These separate channels allow each memory module access to the memory controller, increasing throughput bandwidth. It is not required that identical modules be used, but this is often recommended for best dual-channel operation. It is possible to use a single-sided module of 512 MB[1] and a double-sided module of 512 MB in dual-channel configuration, but how fast and stable it is depends on the memory controller.

Dual channel will perform much better than single channel. If you're happy with your performance now, then it's ok.

But my mobo doesn't support 1600mhz, I think.
You are 100% correct.
AMD processors (with integrated memory controllers) have a known issue with RAM above 1333MHz.
Better to stay at that frequency.
You can always under-clock, but save a few $ and get 1333MHz RAM.

I agree with A Guy and Hoppy, you can get into the ratings war if you want to. Try for a better WEI score or a better CPU score or other benchmarks. The truth is that there are very few computers out there that cannot be improved in some way. The only thing that really matters is that your computer will do what you need it to do. If it works well and you are happy with it, leave it alone. At the end of the day, it is your computer and you are using it. If you are happy, there is nothing that needs to be done, just enjoy it.

Let me get this straight for you...

Until last month, I had:

Pentium 4 1.6ghz
512mb ram PC133
GeForce FX 5500 AGP 4x
IDE Seagate barracuda 80GB
Asus P4B mobo (don't know the model, but it's old, from 2002)

I'm absolutely in love with my new rig, it's blazing fast and does things that I never thought it doing. I can already play Crysis with the onboard GPU, let alone a HD 6850. Of course I won't be able to play Crysis 2 in Ultra settings in 1080p, but I don't need that. Graphics are important, but the game play must be fun too.

ps: my old rig had USB 1.1, and it used to be a pain to make any kind of transfers, or loading my iPod/pendrives. Now it's almost instant! (USB 3.0 rules!) :D

I'm gonna leave it the way it is now, and maybe in 2 years I get a X6 processor and more ram, to keep it strong for some more years.
