Hello essenbe! I've been able to follow OCZ's instruction! I had no need to hotplug my SSD after all. All it needed is that it needed to be on AHCI. So what I did is that I plugged my SSD on the Intel 3Gb/s SATA chip and voilà. Plugged my CD/DVD drive where my SSD was haha. So now, my score is back to 7.6!

Now... software re-installation time. We all know how fun it is!

You are lucky. I am in ahci mode and have never been able to get it to work without hot plugging. So, congratulations. And yes I know how much fun installing programs can be. That's why I try to 'travel light' and install as few as possible. Good luck to you. It seems your luck has changed.

Well, in good luck, there was a bit of bad luck. My graphic card has a very good cooling but it's cheap so while I was trying to change the cables, I was kind touching the video card with my arm and a plastic thing that was holding off the cooling broke. I had to put some tape so it can hold >_< Don't worry, the tape doesn't touch the circuitry. it's stuck on the platic and a cooling thingy that isn't related directly to what broke. I checked the temperature of the card and it's idling at ~32-36 degrees celcius. So, the cooling is still working right. Phew.

Software wise, I have a lot of them. But I usually don't format very often. So it usually takes me a couple of hours to re-install everything. But that's OK, I'm bored anyway

Glad to see you got it sorted.

Be sure to set the two GSATA (GSATA 6_7 and GSATA 8_9) to AHCI in BIOS before the re-install.
This way you can try them if you want to at a later date.

Your Marvel drivers were for AHCI and the BIOS was likely set to IDE, this caused the crash.
I have used the method you did before with Intel drivers and it worked, most other mother boards won't allow this.
Best to set all of them to AHCI before installing the OS.

Let us know how the re-install went.

Why are you reinstalling windows after setting to AHCI mode? Just do this

Exit all Windows-based programs.
Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.

Just got this new laptop and i got to say i have extremely impressed so far.

sheesh... I'd be amazed with that for desktop scores, but on a laptop??? :shock:
I've had a look at some images of Clevo/Sager laptops, and whilst looking rather bulky, it's perfectly understandable why! If a friend with a MacBook Air came along boasting how thin it was, you'd instantly win by saying "Who cares about the size? This is probably more powerful than you desktop PC and makes the MacBook Air specs look like a pocket pc from 2002" anyway...

Just wondering, what's the battery life like?
(I know it's clichéd, but when I was asking a friend about whether I should buy an i7 laptop, he said the battery would last a few seconds )

Nah. I moved my SSD to the Intel controller (SATA 3Gb/s - my SSD is not SATA 6Gb/s) where my CD/DVD drive was and put the Opti. drive on the Marvell 6Gb/s. Works like a charm.

just got a new msi gt683dxr with an i7. it doesn't have as beefy as an i7 as 990 but its at idle saying about 3 1/2 hours so with good use 2 hours i'd guess anything intense less than an hour

well, that's a better battery life than mine (it dies within 5 minutes as the battery is knackered ) I guess that is pretty good usage... well, I'd be pleased with battery life like that

RevoDrive 3 X2 sure helped my WEI in my new build. Now onto more serious CPU overclocking. 5.0 MHz gives me a 7.8 for processor. Does anyone know what speeds would give a CPU 7.9? Is it even worth trying for?

I don't believe a 7.9 has been acheived without extreme cooling. IMHO it's not worth torturing your CPU for a number that has dubious value. Enjoy your system

7.9 is not possible with the CPU's out today. The only CPU that scored 7.9 I've seen, they were pouring liquid nitrogen in.
