While a great WEI gives one bragging rights, at the end of the day, it's performance in actual use that matters. If your rig meets your needs and is fast enough for you, the WEI doesn't really matter. What does matter is if your performance starts to suffer, either spontaneously or after a modification, a change in the WEI can give you an idea where the problem lies.

I was kind of expecting the incremental upgrade from the new CPU and RAM.

The SSD score kind of knocked my socks off.

I am very happy with this new build I have finally managed to find a way to connect to the internet and I am currently downloading some Steam games. I'm sure if a bought an SSD I would be happy with all above 7.0 score. Does anyone know if overclocking improves the rating?

Overclocking will improve the CPU rating, however, it is never a good idea to overclock a laoptop, and most manufacturers lock the bios so all overclocking features are not there. If you have a custom built desktop, that's a different story. But an OEM desktop still falls in the catagory of the laptop, locked bios.

OK, then depending on the CPU and motherboard, you should be good. My suggestion is do a lot of reading and ask a lot of questions if you are not familar with overclocking. It can be hazardous to your PC's health if done wrong. Don't think I am against overclocking, I am overclocked right now. I'm only suggesting you be familar with what happens and how it works for your board and CPU.

Updated my system specs, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the 965 BE overclocks like a dream. I will make every effort to go through tutorials before I overclock!
