AHCI was already enabled, but went thru the motions to double check.

GPU scores went up a bit, no change for SSD.

@Bob, I was going to suggest trying the SSD in a different port, but it appears your motherboard has 6 Sata ports and they are all on the same controller.
It certainly looks to be running slow in certain areas, I really don't know a lot about AMD, on my Intel board AS SSD test shows it as being in AHCI mode, yours does not.

When I set-up this new machine I ended up doing a clean install, with only the SSD connected.

Would this not have enabled AHCI ?
Is there a way to check this without going into the BIOS ?
Also, there was a choice to use RAID, should I use this to enable AHCI ?

Did you follow the guide that A-Guy posted for setting AHCI mode in Windows Bob? And also if you did, I would reboot the computer after doing so, and go into the Bios to check that it is set to AHCI mode too.

But be sure to do what is said in the Guide before changing the setting in the Bios otherwise the PC will not boot Windows.

And no, don't choose RAID, that is nothing to do with it.

Yes, I followed the guide.
In step 3 the value was already 0. After reboot, Windows did not install any drivers.
The drives were already set to AHCI.

Would it make any sense to go thru the process again to be sure I did not miss anything as it was 2am when I did this ?

If it was me personally I would follow the guide again just to check it is still set to 0, then check in the bios to confirm it's set to AHCI and if that's all correct I would maybe try a different Sata port and a different Sata cable.

If that doesn't sort it then I would have to think again and ask some others for their thoughts.

Doesn't show how much life it has left in it, but the Samsung 830's are hard to kill! Pretty sure the 840 Pro will be as well.

Double checked everything and all is still the same settings.

In the BIOS, under Advanced tab:

OnChip SATA Channel - Enabled

SATA Port 1 - Port 4 - AHCI

SATA Port 5 - Port 6 - AHCI

S.M.A.R.T Status Check - Enabled


SATA ESP on all Ports - Disabled

I don't think switching ports will make a differance as they are set the same, am I wrong ?

Any other ideas or is this a not so good drive to begin with ?

Truth be told, my 840 Pro is too light to serve as a decent paperweight.

If mine does not get its act together real soon, it will be a paper weight.
I'm seriously thinking I should just get the model you have anyway. If I remember correctly
when I first installed it, I was wondering what the big fuss was all about as I did not see any difference between the original HDD and the SSD speed wise.

Have you tried running using standard MS AHCI drivers? Did the WEI change with the generic MS AHCI drivers?

Speed wise, SSD should be way faster and heavy programs should launch several times faster if the SSD is functioning properly.

I have no idea which drivers are installed. This is all the info. I could find.

In post # 517 the choice to update the driver was greyed out.

Now checking in Device Manager, the option is there. Anyone think I should try to update the drivers or would this not make a difference ?

Maybe I should try uninstalling the drivers and see what Windows installs ?
