CoasterFan you have a real good computer there. dont worry about it. The WEI index is not going to tell you how good yor computer experience "will" be.

and as for the SSD. It is a solid-state drive like flash drives. It has no moving parts. so no RPM's the read/write speeds are very fast as it doesn't need to read/write information from/to a spinning disk. SSD's right now are very expensive and low storage.

The best set up:
2 hard drives: SSD is 60-120G to hold only the OS and Programs. Second HDD would be your 1TB 7200RPM HD to hold all of your data.

MY WEI - I didn't know how to copy/paste the screen shot, but this was my score: Processor: 7.4 Memory: 7.4 Graphics: 7.8 Gaming Graphics: 7.8 Primary Hard Disk: 5.9 Overall Score: 5.9 That's a shame. Why is the Primary Hard Disk so slow? I have a 1 TB 7200RPM Hard Drive..... Wouldn't it get rated better?

How old is the computer, have you used lots of space up and have you defragged on reg. basis?

Edit: Oh well, I was hoping you could increase it by cleaning up stuff or defragging, but I guess the WEI is its own level. The outside of the disc is moving faster due to the diamater, a 3.5 is faster than a 2.5 disk. (they have the same RPM) so a defrag could help. Oh well.

Hi there. I just got the computer actually. It's a XPS 9000 with the Intel Core i7 920 2.6GHZ Processor, 6GB Memory, 1TB HD, ATI Radeon 5870 1GB Video.... It's pretty darn good though.

My question is, if I order a SSD drive, (is that 10000 ot 15000 RPMS?), that will make it that much faster, or is it not worth it?? :sarc:

There's no RPM with an SSD....it is flash memory, not a spinning hard disk. The read and write speeds are much faster, but they still cost a lot. A small one for your OS and programs, with a traditional hard disk for your data, would make any computer faster.

WEI Error

I get an error with WEI, and I think it may have something to do with my hard drive. Not sure tho...

I had that problem as well a while back as well; if I remember correctly, to get around it I navigated to C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\, and deleted all the xml files in that folder. After a restart I was able to run the WEI check again.. Try that and see if it helps?

IMPORTANT: Check the file names in that folder before you delete them, and don't delete the folder, just the contents... The file names should have the term 'WinSAT' in it along with the date and time it was saved, and have an xml file extension only. Might also want to send them to the Recycle Bin instead of permanently.. Just in case.

Hey thanks for the info but I tried that and the one Ted gave me to try and neither worked, I get the same error.

In your specs: 6GB DDR3 1333 tri channel w/ 1066 2GB (8GB alltogether)

For anyone more knowledgeable than I, Is this set up ok? maybe this is being tested by WEI and failing?

Good question.......is it 8GB or 6GB? If it is 8GB, is it 2GB of one kind of RAM, and 6GB of that tri-channel? Different RAMs don't work well together, I don't think.

Thats what I was thinking too. Maybe take out extra 2g of ram and see if it still fails in WEI

This is my fault, I should've mentioned that when I took that snapshot, I was only using the tri-channel 6GBs.
In a different thread, I explain my problem of the RAM only showing up as 1066. I know the reason it only shows up as 1066 is because one of the RAM sticks is a 1066, while the tri-channel set is 1333.
Anyways, I'm not sure it's my RAM, but I am thinking that the problem lies within a setting for my SATA HDD... as it ALWAYS fails at the very end when it reads "checking hard disk performance" or whatever it says when checking the index for the hard drive.
I've had this problem ever since I have had Windows 7... I've never owned Vista. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions guys. Back to the drawing board.

I would remove the single 1066 stick of RAM. By having this in your system, you are effectively unbalancing the triple channel memory and, at the same time, forcing it to run at the 1066 speed instead of at 1333. The increase in memory speed and the ideal memory balance of triple channel should outweigh the reduction in memory capacity caused by the removal of the 1066 2GB stick.

I buy a new OCZ Vertex SSD and my score stills under 7

I already try whit Raptors Raid and i got 6.5.


I think is imposible to get the perfect score.

My rig:
Phenom II 550 BE (Unlocked to Quad Core and Overclocked to 3.6ghz).
4GB DDR3 OCZ Gold.
250GB OCZ Vertex SSD 240MBPS-150MBPS.
HD5770 XFX CF.
Moteherboard Ma770T-UD3P.

Hello,
The WEI numbers have completely dumbfounded me... It is currently 6.0.
My first try at installing Win7 - 64 Ultimate yielded a womping 7.0, limited by the SSD in IDE mode.
My ATI 5870 was 7.4 I believe.
So then, after having to reinstall using AHCI mode, my SSD went up to 7.3, but my Graphics dropped to 6.0.
After several reinstalls, switching out ATI 5870 to different PCI-E slot, return to IDE mode, & lots of BIOS configuration tinckering, it hasn't budged from the 6.0 mark.
...dumbfounded... but I'm still very impressed with Win7 @ WEI 6.0!
