As best I can determine, the Aero score is related to the graphics adapter and/or video memory. I had a low Aero score and I installed a new graphics card and my score improved.

Can someone explain why swapping my 640GB Western Digital AAKS for a 1TB WD Caviar Black FALS would drop my HD score from 7.7 to 5.9? And it's not even my boot/OS drive!
My boot drive is a 40GB Intel V-series G2 SSD that has the same amount of free space today when I redid WEI as it did when I first built the system and tested it a couple weeks ago and got the 7.7. The WD drive is just for storing data and software. I just copied the folders over from the 640GB to the 1TB drive. Everything's fine. Except for the WEI score.

Seems rather crazy for it to drop by 1.8, no? The new drive has more free space and I'm pretty sure the performance is similar if not nearly identical between the AAKS and the FALS. Also, doesn't WEI specifically test the drive where Win7 is installed? If so, I wonder what's changed/wrong with my SSD. I ran the Intel toolbox optimizer on it to make sure it's still optimized. It came back Green, meaning it optimized the SSD and it should be good to go.

Any ideas? :(

Quick question. Now that AHCI is enable, the "safely remove hardware & enject media" icon is permanent on my right hand taskbar. Are you encountering the same thing? Just wondering if this was normal.
Well.... According to this thread on the Microsoft Answers forum, it's normal. :sarc: I have it on my computer as well now, I didn't think much of it though. I know there is a way to hide certain drives from the 'Safely Remove' list, but if I remember correctly, it requires altering information in the registry..

Edit: Wikipedia has a much better description of why AHCI mode shows up SATA drives in that list (link here).

Its perfecly normal since one of the features of AHCI is hot plug of the HD drives in case you want to plug in or out and e-sata HD without restarting your system. If you do not want to see the HDs in the "safely remove hardware & enject media" then you can install Intel® Matrix Storage Console and it will go away.!

I am using the default msahci drivers and do not see this icon for sata devices.

Personally I reccomend msahci over the buggy intel drivers, I would only use the intel drivers if using the matrix raid.

Yeah, I'm very happy with it. Building it and installing windows was a breeze. Not a single problem. Windows supplied all the drivers and it runs exceptionally well
