Latest bump. Same low profile Antec case, mobo, CPU, RAM, etc. I just Arctic Silvered the GPU and VRAM to the stock heatsink and bumped both clocks up by 100MHz. This rig has not been fully rebuilt in years as I love to squeeze every last iota of performance out of mostly sub $100 components and stuff from the previous machine that still works. I'd really love to see a "bang for the buck" comparison here. Who gets the highest scores with the cheapest hardware. That's my bag really. I mean, any schmoe can buy a video card that gets upper 7's or the latest i7 or an Intel SSD and buy their way into the big boys club but that really defeats the purpose if money is no object. Why not just go buy the top of the line Alienware box and post your WEI? My money goes to Joe Six-pack who's got a rig he's been running with for some time that doubles as the family computer too.

So I've been fiddling around with the AHCI driver issue (AMD Chipsets) and that's what I found out:

- AMD recently added stand-alone AHCI drivers, last time I checked they only had RAID drivers with included AHCI support: both are available here --> Motherboard/Chipset Drivers --> Individual Drivers (Motherboard/Chipset) --> select OS
- Advantage of AHCI only over RAID drivers: S.M.A.R.T. values are available BUT there still seems to be an issue with the AAM functionality as you can't change the value set before installing the AMD driver
- I've tried AHCI only drivers and couldn't see a significant difference to Microsoft (Win 7 included) drivers in CrystalDiskMark + HDTune Pro performance
- So far so good but I guess this article is talking about something else, unfortunately I'm too much of a noob to deal with this IOMeter Software used in the benchmark. Is anyone with an AMD system in AHCI mode capable and willing to reproduce this IO Test from the techreport article?

Other issues I came across today:
- What's up with that S.M.A.R.T reading showing in HDTune but not in CrystalDiskInfo?!
- And why is Win System Info telling me that only 6 of my 8GB are usable?!

Thanx for your help!

Open Msconfig/Boot/Advanced options and in the Boot Advanced Options make sure you have the right amount of memory in the Maximun Memory box. You might have it set at 6GB

My current scores without my OverClock.

4200 overclocks very nicely.

it's a crime to not overclock it :D

I was having issues. Sometimes my desktop would shut off as it if was unplugged and then auto-restart.

Other times my screen would freeze and some pretty colors would appear over the frozen image as if I was using paint (mostly pinky/green/yellowish colors).

Smarteyeball and I think it was either due to heat or not enough juice being put into the board since I had my CPU clocked from 2.8GHz to 3.5GHz

Dude I'll will you my old Vertex just to get your composite scores off the floor!

EDIT: conspiracy? Does MS invest in Sandforce, Indilinx? The only reason I'm looking for a new SSD now (and willing it to you seriously) is 'cause I'm drooling over a couple Sandforce drives that can get the perfect 7.9 in RAID 0.
