Why would you say it's for no reason, the reason why is because the technology isn't available yet to achieve a full 7.9, it was the same when Vista was released, how else would you get a relevant score with the products of the future.

Scratch that, I love how Microsoft puts in the experience index. It just makes non-tech-savvy people think their computer sucks, so they buy a new one (don't tell me nobody does this, I can think of people) .

I think the 7.9 will be doable once the nvidia 300 series cards come out in 6-9 months with DDR5 and DX11 support, I can get close, with my system but have little incentive to push since I know my score will be 6.6 no matter what I do,due to gaming graphics. I have 4 of 5 catagories @ 7.5 or above, and do not think Win 7 is using or rateing Quad SLI with its presant driver.

I think that if you stuck in some ATi 4870x2's (which have DDR5 and DX11 support already, take that Nvidia! ) then you could get a higher score.

And you would get a higher score with me as well, because I don't like nvidia . Although, I would take a computer with an nvidia card any day over my piece of crap.

I have Q9550 @3740mhz and nvidia Geforce gtx 260 OC'd to something, OC'd 4gb memory @ 1100mhz or something and samsung F1 hdd, sadly not OC'd... o wait :sarc:

No! No GPU is capable of supporting DX11 at the moment. 10.1 is the most at the minute.

Yep the current range of ATI cards are 10.1 only. There are no current dx11 cards available in either camp

That's strange. I know that there is at least one (any brand), because I saw a YouTube video that compared DX11 to DX 10.1. Feel free to check/correct me.

i have a very close score to yours, the only difference is your graphics scores beat mine by .6 points. i have a q9550 as well at 3.93ghz, they are just as good as the extreme series, both have 12mb cache, but the only difference is the unlocked multiplier and a 1600mhz native bus on the qx, but mine is running at 1850 anyway, and yours will be close to mine. even the i7 960ee doesnt get 7.9 overclocked. (7.8 if i recall).

My I7 965 is OCed to 3.989, I know I could push it to 4.2 possably higher on air, I just saw a 5.5 WC, ( so I edited 5-1-09)Todaywith the 920 D0, but don't want water hassles. I dont need the speed, and it wouldn't improve my score without the graphics improvment anyway, I think I could boost my hard drive with another SSD added to the raid, but like I said, I would still be stuck at 6.6, so for me theres nothing left to do but wait. I did want to peg 7.9, but only because Microsoft said it couldn't be done.

Update on my WEI:

I thought it wierd that my memory only scored 5.5 with a memory speed of 1175MHz. Installed another 2Gb and also crossed over to 64-bit and whohoo.... 7.1!!!

5.5 on water? thats a pretty big call. and a pretty big vcore. the problem i have read with the i7 is the feature that adjusts the multiplier causes instability around 4ghz and higher. it was proven that 3.6-3.8 was far more reliable and 100% stable and requires far less vcore in turn results in a lasting cpu, less power consumption, cooler, benchmarkings also proved that for the amount of vcore, extra heat, life reduction that 4ghz was not worth the small increase in performance opposed to the 3.6-3.8ghz tests.

just my i77 cents, but i will be waiting a while till the drop the rediculouse prices of the i7's and mobos as my setup isnt even a year old, yet spent soo much penny's on it.

but all in all i like the new architecture design and cannot wait to get my hands on the new news (eventually as i just bought a house) its good to see they finally caught up with amd's memory controller technology.

I am using the 185.81 drivers and my index is 7.7, 7.9, 6.4, 6.4, 6.1.

I was a little surprised that Raptor drives in RAID0 scores so low and that my graphics scores were so low. Kinda makes you wonder what is coming to top things out huh...

You have to go to SSDs to get a higher index mine is 7.9 7.9 6.4 6.4 7.9
So far the only problem is with the Xonar X2D sound card. I think that Microsoft has got it right this time.

What is the highest index score? Is it 7.9? Because Vista is 5.9.
My graphics and gaming score is 6.4 and the rest are 7.9.

The RC1 and 7.011 must have raised the Bar, Im still with 7000. on Aero graphics, I have a 7.9 their, as apposed to your 6.4's, What Raid controller are you using, as you have a 7.9 and I only get 7.4, with 3 ocz 30's using the X58 intell controller, and what do you have to push the CPU to to get a 7.9, I only get 7.6,shansmi's 7.7 and your 7.9.

I ran a 6.5 on busniss graphics, but pushed GPU to 700/1524/1200 and went up to 6.6, I bumped it up to 719/1534/1200 and no change

Scores 7.6,7.8,7.9,6.6,7.5

I did install another 6 gig of mem, and my mem score went up .1 to 7.9, but my 3D graphgics droped to 6.0 and HDD droped to 7.0, think it's because the added memmory changed my memmory from T1 to T2, I removed the second 6 gig and scores returned. I wanted to peg 7.9's but think it will take the 300 series graphic cards to get there.

Shansmi, the GVT fix worked for me, ( Thanks) but it didn,t buy me anything, in WEI, and my scores went down a tad in vantage, went down 2000, vantage varries every time I run it. but usualy not by that much.

I know you cant believe everything you read, but if these are true, and I've been talking to some of these people for months now, It seems like 7.9 is possable in every catagory but video. It looks like it takes a 4.2 OC, or above to get 7.9 on CPU.

4.2 would be possible, but the question is will it be truly stable? but 5.5 on water, would take alot of convincing i think. that would need a vcore of over 1.5v. even 1.5v on water would be struggling to maintain low temps just on idle. still at the end of the day its all just a benchmarking world, all you have to do is clock your system to run WEI then clock it back to stable settings, in hoping you havnt damaged your internals of the processor whilst attempting it with high vcore. personally i attempt 4ghz with any new cpu i buy, my e8400 could run at 4.22 but wasnt 100% gaming stable but could run 3d06, my current q9550 runs at 3.93 with very little adjustments, but my mobo for some reason is limiting me to acheive 4ghz stable when going beyond 1876fsb (wont buy another xfx mobo again) plus the major issue with vdroop is pathetic.
