Significant problems with AMD compute drivers on new 7 install

Hello everyone.

After years of being disrespected by Win 10, I decided to revert back to 7 on my desktop as I remember it being a solid operating system.

I am having lots problems installing the AMD 17.20.1029 compute drivers on the machine. I need these drivers because I am a sometimes crypto miner.

At first I tried to install the driver after the OS install was complete, but got an error. I then read that AMD drivers will not install properly unless the OS is fully updated. The system is mostly updated, but 4 "important" updates continually fail to install.

After all the updating, the drivers appear to install correctly but it's a facade because I get a Direct3D failure error when trying to start a game, and also AMD Settings will not open; the icon just sits in the task tray but the program never opens.

I also get an error when trying to uninstall the drivers. To solve this i used DDU in safe mode which seemed to do the trick. Currently I am running the AMD recommended driver and everything appears to be working fine, but as stated above, the goal is really to get those compute drivers working.

-Thanks for looking

I have SP1 installed. I ran the compute driver on Win 10 for years with no problems on the same hardware. I know that the compute driver will work with Win 7 because AMD says it will, which is why I think the problem is with my particular Win 7 installation. SFC show errors that it cannot fix and there are also updates that fail to install, so I'm thinking once those issues are solved the driver may install correctly. I guess I will make another post about getting those issued fixed.

Since SFC doesn't fix the issue, I'd be apt to do a repair install.
