I am having major difficulty loading the Sims 1 on my Windows 7 laptop.
Here is a link to my printscreen so you can see the exact problem.
I am not super tech-savvy, so please be patient with me, but I would *really* like to play this game and you know all about Windows 7 and games, so you are my best help! :D

here is the link:

Thanks so much!

Or, if anyone knows of a game in which I can design houses that is really why I play sims in the first place, please recommend! that'd be great!

try running the installer file as an admin, by opening the dvd/source finding the setup file right clicking it and choosing run as administrator.

On the disc, have you tried setting the setup.exe to
Compatability mode: Windpows XP?

This as well as running as admin may do the trick.

have you tried the troubleshoot compatibility thing?

Just did, it gives me the options to
"Try Recommended Settings" (Which sets it to XP)
or "Troubleshoot program" (which allows me to choose an operating system...)

Okay, I have tried running it on Windows 2000 and a bunch of the others and it still has the same message, though I am the admin and can access those files...?

Is it possible the disc itself is scratched, smudged or something preventing it from reading at that part?
You may try installing to a custom directory, such as C:/The Sims ... but Im doubtful that will help with the error you are getting.

It's definitely not the disk, I put in another game that can be loaded and it gives me the same error... :/

I tried to change the permission to that folder and it will not let me and though I am an (and the only) admin account it tells me who can access what but will not allow me to change that... Is there some possibility I can make another account to be *the* admin from my account? I am so confused, I will get a screencap of the permission screen...

so who are all those accounts (besides SYSTEM... I get that haha) if I only have one account and that is my Admin account, with one other Guest Account who only is a standard user?

If I remember correctly (and I probably don't, at least not all the details), I think I read somewhere that Sims1 is just not compatible with Windows 7. Perhaps even Vista.

That may be true but I don't see why *none* of my games will load...even some much newer games...? :/

I just realized something it has to change file properties in order for it to work right. It can't do this while the files are on a disk.
Try copying the contents of the disk into a folder on your harddrive and then setting it for compatibility and run as admin.

I have a final possibility that will more than likely allow you to install and run the game.
But it takes some doing.
Download Windows XP Mode
