I used to have XP installed on here, and I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate.
I have tried to run the game in all different compatibility modes and they all fail, Windows XP service pack 2 goes the best, it loads the screen and then crashes.
I have installed a patch from the EA website.

According to the 'Can you run it?' - Can You Run It - I pass, so in theory it should work.

How can I get it to work?

~ I have most of the expansion packs, I haven't tried any of those I have just installed the TS2 base pack.

Hi Pieface just a thought, do you have any mods or custom content installed? These often cause a freeze or a crash with no error messages

I myself have recently installed Sims 2, along with Seasons and University. When I try and start up the game, it'll start doing the intro, will give me an error message saying the game's crashed, and then terminates. I'm going to assume that this is one of those games that just doesn't like Windows 7, for whatever reason. I tried using XP compatibility, and it doesn't work. I'll try disabling visual themes, but I doubt it'll work. Worth a try anyway. Has anyone gotten this game to work on Windows 7?

Edit: I've decided to reinstall the game and see what happens from there. I'll respond here again if it works or not. Might've been crashing from before simply because I installed some custom houses. So I deleted the Sims2 directory just in case they were installed in the main directory.

Edit: Okay, I uninstalled the game (and the couple expansions I had installed), I'm getting more of those soon, btw, so I'm not going to install any until I either get all of them, or most. Also, does anyone have the proper order for them to be installed?

So, I reinstalled the game, without the expansions. Game runs fine to the main menu (have not tried actually playing yet), but it seems to load the menu and the scenario just fine. I have it run with Admin rights though, just in case. I usually do make my games run with that option. Anyway, game runs okie dokie so far.

Sims 2 on Windows Vista And Windows 7 is incompatible I think, I believe there might be a patch out, or try running the .exe of the game with XP compatibility.

reply....

Its not true about the fallacy that sims 2 can't be played on windows 7.. Actually it is..but the system will first ask some related compatibility issue question then you just need to agree with that..Based from my experienced, my OS is windows 7 64 bit and I'm not encountering any problems in fact I have 6 EP and 6 SP on my windows 7 64-bit laptop :D
