Solved Sims 2 won't install onto my laptop

I've been wanting to play sims 2 on my windows 7 laptop, and have read a lot of different posts and threads on what to do to make it play properly once installed- the most common solution seeming to be to right click and change the compatibility (as well as making sure you are running it as an administrator).

However, I can't even reach that point. Everyone else doesn't seem to have too much of a problem installing sims 2, but once I reach the actual install point it will keep popping up with,
'A problem occurred when trying to transfer the file 'TSData\Res\Sims3D\Sims13.package' from the media. Do you want to retry to copy the file, or cancel the installation?'
This will happen randomly while installing, and if I press 'Retry', it will continue along with installation for a bit until the same message pops up again. It will actually say it's reached 100% after a while, but the message will still pop up and nothing else will happen.

I have the version with 4 different disks, and I'm starting at disk one, but at no point does it ask for any of the other disks, and it doesn't do anything different if I insert any of the others instead while installing.

I'm disappointed (I was looking forward to playing it and thought I knew how to make the compatibility work- I never thought I wouldn't even get that far!) so please, if anyone has a solution it would be very much appreciated! :)

Thanks!

A couple of things you could try:

1. The disk might be dirty or have a scratch. Try cleaning the disk.
2. Run the installer as Administrator.
3. Set the compatibility on the installer exe file to XP Service Pack 3.
4. Try copying the contents of the disk to the hard disk and run the installer from there (as Administrator). Make sure you leave the CD/DVD in the drive when you do this as the installer will no doubt check for copy protection.

Try those things and see if they work, and report back, please. :)

Much better since I got fiber, but still way overpriced.

This is bad to admit- the first option worked!!

I'd given it a quick clean before I tried it the first time, so assumed it was something else, and now I feel suitably embarrassed...! It installed perfectly this time :) Silly to think I'd spent ages trying to figure it out when it was something so small.

I thought your other suggestions were really good though, straightforward stuff that I hadn't thought of, so thank you! I would have tried them if the first option hadn't worked.

For anyone else trying to run it, the game itself also works fine for me once the compatibility settings are changed and you run it as an administrator.

Thanks so much for your help, and sorry it was something so minor in the end!
