Solved Sites think, I have an old version of IE

About a month ago I was getting some websites reporting that I was not using the latest IE version. At that time I checked my Browser "About" it showed I had IE9 running. So I simply ignored the theree different occasions that I got the message from 3 diferent websites. Today however I can accross a web site that told me they no longer support IE7 and thet I should upgrade other wise I can not continue.
So again i checked my browseer and indeed it still told me I have IE9. So I decided to upgrade by going to Microsoft site and download the latest version thinking that should fix the proble. Wwll The MS site told me that I have the latest version and I can not download the latest unlesss I unintall the presnt version. I do not want to do that as yet. Can anyone shed any light as to why this scenario is occuring??

Press Alt to bring up the command bar, select tools, compatibility view settings, here you can change the defaults.

I went to compatibilty view.... omly one site was listed my Ebay which never gave me the message that I had an older version of IE.
This did not solve my problem.

What website is it?
The problem could simply be a problem with the website's browser detection code and there is nothing that you can do to your computer to correct their problem.

I get that on a few sites even though I have IE9 (this one every time 101Sports.com: St. Louis' Sports Talk Radio), I think some sites put that up for every visitor regardless of what browser you're using. They're using that to get people that have an older browser to think there's something wrong and get them to upgrade. Social engineering.

The site is Intuit sitebuilder and Homestead.com (Homestaed was bought by intuit).
Based on what you told me I will contact them and complain, they are the only ones that do not stop at a warning ..... they simply will not let me continue. I had to switch to Google chrome to get past their "gate" .
the other three sites i visted over the last three months simply put up a message alerting me that I do not have the latest IE, but let me continue on to their site.
